Skytech Shiva RTX 3060 Ti

Overall Best Gaming PC on Amazon: Skytech Shiva RTX 3060 Ti

When I get questions from our readers on this topic, they’re usually looking for the best choice under $1,500 as a mid-ranage pick.

This is slightly more than that, but I really think it’s worth pushing your budget a little further.

At a fantastic price point, you’re getting a well-rounded machine that is led by an RTX 3060 Ti, a fantastic GPU at this price point.

You can expect smooth 60+ FPS gameplay at 1440P in nearly every modern game; with fantastic future-proofing, VR ready, and some impressive capability for 4k gaming too.

Working alongside the card to achieve that gaming power is a fantastic Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz processor, 16GB 3200Mhz DDR4 Ram, and a 1TB SSD.

All of these specs make this a wonderful machine for not just gaming but some serious professional work if required (be it high-res video editing, rendering, production programming, and other intensive tasks).

All of this is housed in the fantastic InWin 103 case; a great chassis that offers good airflow and upgrade capabilities in the future if desired.

Tied in with the custom RGB lighting and fans, the unit will run well, look beautiful and most importantly, act perfectly as a gaming setup.

If you’re looking for a mid-range gaming PC that meets a sweet spot between price, performance, and build quality, this is the most ideal pick I’ve reviewed for the job.

2023 update: The 3060 Ti Shiva remains our top overall pick; although I reviewed several of the new 40XX PCs, these desktops are all coming in at $1,500+ and I see comments reflecting slightly lower budgets.

If you have a budget higher than this pick but lower than our most powerful choice below, a good in-between option is this MPG Velox version which manages to boast an RTX 4070 Ti for under $2,000 (this GPU usually performs better than an RTX 3090, so it’s a complete powerhouse).

If you can’t afford that, rest assured, I’ve kept the Shiva at the top for a reason; it offers great value for a mid-range build.

Our Rating: 9.75/10

Skytech Shadow RTX 3050

Best Gaming PC on Amazon Under $1,000 (Top Pick): Skytech Shadow RTX 3050

As much as I’d love to tell everyone to stretch to the top offering, Skytech have an offering at a very decent budget price point.

This RTX 3050 Gaming PC packs a great punch with 8GB of dedicated GDDR6 VGA memory. This card is well known for its value, and many other picks around the $1,000 mark don’t compete with it.

You’ll get great performance in today’s popular titles (from Apex Legends to the latest Call of Duty), especially at 1080p and you can expect that to last for many future titles too.

Taking Cyberpunk 2077 as an example, in high settings the Shadow will manage a high frame rate on 1080p. You will even undoubtedly be able to get some decent rates on 1440p and even 4k if you play with some graphics settings.

The Core i5 10400F is a good CPU for gaming and general usage needs. It’s not one of the latest processors and I would have liked to see something a little better, but it’s clear the pre-built was intended to focus more of the budget on the RTX 3050. This is certainly a better tactic for a gaming PC than going overkill on the processor and offering a disappointing GPU (as is unfortunately common in a lot of pre-builds).

The 8GB RAM is enough to get the build up and running, but we would definitely recommend adding a second stick of 8GB RAM when your budget allows. It’s a quick, easy, and cheap upgrade that will not only give you a decent gaming boost but also make your workstation/browsing needs quick and more future-proofed.

Working alongside the CPU and RAM for a fast browsing experience is a 1TB SSD (with Windows 10 included). I was really pleased with this spec as it would’ve been super easy for Skytech to include a 512GB drive and still be considered decent amongst its similarly-priced competitors.

If for whatever reason you want more space in the future too, you’ll have room to add in another HDD or SSD.

The whole setup is stylishly housed in a decent chassis. You’ll have a good amount of USB ports within the case and alongside the 3 RGB fans and decent space for airflow, the setup looks great and has decent cooling.

The unit adds more value by including a free gaming keyboard and mouse. They’re perfectly serviceable for gaming use (but as you can expect with freebies, you may want to upgrade if you are into competitive gaming/esports).

Overall, I really like the package Skytech has put together here.

Yes, you can do better with a higher budget. But for $1,000? I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with just how great the Shadow is at this price point.

Our Rating: 9.25/10

Velztorm Praetix CTO

Most Powerful Gaming PC on Amazon: Velztorm Praetix CTO

Now, for those looking for the most powerful setup you can possibly achieve, this is the best choice I’ve found.

There are some even more expensive options on Amazon, sure.

But I looked through these, and their spec choices add unnecessary extra bells and whistles for $100s (even $1000s) extra.

If your budget is large, then the Velztorm Praetix CTO is easily my choice for the best gaming PC on Amazon available today.

Leading its power is the monstrous RTX 4090 graphics card, the best on the market right now, which will simply crush anything you throw at it (and likely will for a very long time).

And what’s more, the benchmarking that has been achieved on 4K gaming with the RTX 4090 is very impressive. You can expect to still achieve great framerates in 2160p (even 8K gaming should you be so inclined!).

Alongside this top-range GPU is the fantastic Intel i9-13900KF 32G DDR5 RAM & a Gen4 1TB NVMe SSD.

These specs will handle anything you can expect to throw at them and will be excellent for high-scale production work on top of your gaming (I appreciate the 1000W power supply that is comfortably over the 850W minimum recommended by Nvidia for the 4090).

You’ll notice that the Amazon page includes a bunch of different options for RAM and Drive sizes. I’ve chosen the one that I’d consider the best choice for those after something extra powerful, without simply wasting money. More RAM than 32GB is overkill for gaming, and while you could get a large SSD/HDD combo, there is more than enough here for a decent gaming library (you can easily upgrade in the future if you need to).

You may notice that there are some cheaper 4090 setups floating around. Beware that many pre-built PCs use significantly outdated hardware elsewhere in the machine to justify the low cost of the GPU. Usually, this is the CPU, which is often several generations behind and will bottleneck your gaming performance. I like the CTO because the GPU still has had the most attention, but the 13900KF is a powerful CPU that accompanies it nicely.

Powering the CPU is a 360mm liquid cooler, which not only looks fantastic alongside included RGB fans but will give you great overclocking potential should you desire it in the future. I’ve not really come across many PCs (pre-built or custom) that boast this much thermal management.

The case itself is a gorgeous offering too, with a single long tempered glass window running down the full length of the front and left side. Photos don’t do it justice, this machine looks incredible.

You’re then of course getting the other extras you would expect plenty of USB ports, decent Wi-Fi capability and Windows 11.

What else is there to say about the CTO, other than to reiterate how powerful the RTX 4090 graphics card is that leads its system.

This is the best pre-built 4K gaming PC on Amazon today.

If you have the budget for this, you’re going to love it.

2023 update: This pick updates our previous 3090 desktop choice. It’s a great time to buy this setup as the 4090 is fresh on the market and unmatched in performance.

Our Rating: 9.5/10

Skytech Archangel GTX 1050 Ti

Best Budget Gaming PC on Amazon: Skytech Archangel GTX 1050 Ti

As much as we’d recommend our above picks for a future-proofed setup, I wanted to include some more options that further consider tight-budget users.

The Archangel is a capable gaming desktop with its GTX 1050 Ti at the helm.

This 4GB VRAM graphics card is a little older than our top pick’s; but for the price range, still packs an impressive punch.

That includes running popular titles like Fortnite Chapter 2, Overwatch, and GTA V at excellent framerates on high settings @ 1080p.

With it, you’ll be able to play today’s major eSports & MMORPGs comfortably.

For newer titles, you’ll still have some capacity here in the lower settings/720p (occasionally 1080p), but of course, at this price-point, you won’t be as future-proofed as our top pick.

Working alongside its GPU is a Ryzen 3 1200, 1TB HDD, and 8GB DDR4 2400 Mhz RAM.

These specs are good to run alongside a decent gaming PC, and you’ll still be able to have a smooth workstation experience (web browsing, watching a high-quality video, etc).

In terms of advanced computing work (things like video editing, intensive programming, etc.) you may want to consider one of the more expensive picks if possible.

The unit looks striking with its sleek, blue LED fans and white case, with appropriate cooling for the setup.

We like that despite the lower price-point, Skytech still includes a gaming keyboard/mouse that will be serviceable for budget gamers.

But all in all, at its price point, the Archangel can still get an impressive amount done.

If this is as far as your wallet can take you, know that it’s the best cheap gaming PC on Amazon today.

2023 update: The Archangel is still a decent budget choice, but if you have just a little more to spend, I’d recommend picking up the Chronos 1650 edition. Many of the specs are similarly understated, but the GPU is an RTX 1650 which performs around 50% better, so is a huge upgrade if your budget can stretch.

Our Rating: 8.5/10

Alarco GTX 650

Cheapest Gaming PC on Amazon: Alarco GTX 650

Now while I’ll be clear that the options above will serve you much better for gaming, I appreciate that some of you may be looking for the best beginner gaming PC, or simply the cheapest unit that still has some gaming capability.

And if that’s the case, the Alarco GTX 650 is the optimal choice.

You’ll have a setup designed for “light” gaming.

Don’t expect to run all of the newer titles, but with PC gaming where it is now, so many popular titles are older and well optimized.

With its Intel i5 3.10GHz CPU, 8GB RAM & GTX 650 GPU, you’ll have a good time running games like Fortnite, Minecraft, CS: GO, and other popular less-demanding titles (with some framerate/setting compromises).

Ideally, how we’d look at this choice is that it makes a great base setup; i.e. it will do for getting your feet on the ground for gaming (say, if it’s for a beginner/younger person), but ideally, you would be looking to upgrade the GPU at a later time when budget allows if you’re serious about performance.

For work/web-browsing/video watching, this unit will still perform well (just don’t expect to do any intensive tasks like video editing/rendering).

We appreciate also that the unit comes with a 1TB HDD; at this price, we’d almost expect Alarco to have included a 256GB or 512GB HDD.

That being said, if you upgrade anything other than the GPU, we’d make it a small SSD to run the operating system and your popular apps (in 2022, this makes a big difference for general use/loading)

We also like that despite it being the cheapest viable gaming PC, it still comes with a decent allotment of RGB fans and an aesthetically pleasing case that may not win any awards for cooing, but is more than capable for a budget build.

Perhaps our favorite thing about this gaming bundle is, despite how cheap it is, it isn’t skimping on any of the smaller inclusions.

You’re still getting Windows 10, a Wi-Fi-ready motherboard, and decent USB port availability (no keyboard & mouse included, but cheap bundles are available if needed).

Overall, while this isn’t the most future-proofed machine around, it’s the best gaming computer on Amazon available if you’re on a very tight budget (we wouldn’t recommend anything cheaper than this).

Our Rating: 8/10

Skytech Shadow GTX 1660

Best Amazon Gaming PC Under $800: Skytech Shadow GTX 1660

We’re back to Skytech one last time, who seem to dominate many of the price brackets on Amazon with excellent specs compared to their other pre-built competitors.

The Shadow would be the ideal choice for someone who can’t quite afford our top pick but is still looking for something more powerful than our budget choices.

You can certainly get a lot done with the Shadow’s setup too.

With a decent GTX 1660 graphics card, you’ll run most of today’s titles at very high settings, full HD with 60+ frame rates (even for 1440p on certain titles).

Alongside this beefy GPU is a decent Ryzen 3 3100 & 16GB of DDR 4 3000Mhz RAM.

These will serve you nicely in general computer tasks and although it’s not a professional work PC for editing/rendering and other production, you’ll certainly be able to get some mileage from it if required.

The setup is included in a beautiful full-length tempered glass case with a decent allotment of RGB fans, you’ll have all the cooling and airflow needed for the spec.

You’re once again getting Windows, a great number of USB ports, a free gaming keyboard/mouse, and a wi-fi capable motherboard.

Overall, if you’re in the $800 dollar price range, this is a fantastic choice and meets a respectable balance between budget and performance.

Our Rating: 8.75/10

The 10 Best Cheap Second Monitors in 2022

Cheap Second Monitor

The 10 Best Cheap Second Monitors in 2022

For gaming, work, and everything in between

Cheap Second Monitor

If you spend a decent amount of time (like most of us do) at your PC, a second monitor is a must.

But that shouldn’t mean you have to fork out the same price tag as your primary screen, it’s secondary for a reason!

That’s why today, we’ll be looking through the best budget second monitors for your setup.

We’re not just including the cheapest we can find, but the ones we confidently recommend despite their lower price tags.

Top Picks

Acer SB220Q

Overall Best Cheap Second Monitor

SPECIFICATIONS*

Screen Size: 21.5″ | Panel Type: IPS | Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Refresh Rate: 75Hz | Response Time: 4ms | Brightness: 250 nits | Contrast Ratio: 1000:1

Our Rating: 95%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Incredible price

+ Good screen quality

+ Deceptively thin and well-built

REASONS TO AVOID
− Better specs are available at higher prices

 − Limited adjustability

Topping the list is one of the most impressive value offerings in today’s market.

The Acer SB220Q somehow manages to pack in some decent specifications at a price point where many rival manufacturers don’t even offer a full HD monitor.

On top of the 1080p resolution (which, at 21.5″, looks very crisp), the cheap screen boasts an IPS panel with decent colors and contrast.

The 4ms response time means it’s perfectly serviceable for budget gaming (we do have a more recommended screen for gaming below if you can stretch your budget though).

We’re pleased to see that the listing includes 24″/27″ model options. These are not just similar in spec, but also in value (of course, always expect to pay a little more for larger sizes). Where possible, we recommend picking up a budget second display that’s the same size as your primary screen for aesthetics and ease of use across different content (that said, a smaller display is also OK for your second screen, which is why we specifically recommend the 21.5″ option as the best cheap choice).

At this price point, you can’t expect everything to be the best. As highly as we rate the SB220Q, its brightness is a tad low (250 nits is quite common in monitors, but if your screen faces a lot of sunlight, you may want to consider a slightly more expensive option). The picture quality is good, but you will certainly find better colors, blacks, and whites at higher prices.

We’re pleased to see the monitor is sturdy and well-built, with the only area lacking being limited adjustability (if you want your second monitor to align vertically, see our top streaming pick).

When we think of usages of a second screen, it’s often work-related, IMs, background video content, and internet browsing.

What we love about the SB220Q is, compared to other monitors at the same price, it is perfectly suitable for all these activities (and yes, we are keeping cost in mind, but one of the best things we can say is that it doesn’t feel like a cheap option).

The SB220Q is our comfortable top pick for the best cheap second monitor available today.

AOC G2490VX

Best Cheap Second Gaming Monitor

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 24″ | Panel Type: VA | Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Refresh Rate: 144Hz | Response Time: 1ms (MPRT) | Brightness: 350 nits | Color: 125.95% sRGB & 92.85% DCI-P3 | Contrast Ratio: 4000:1

Our Rating: 95%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Unmatched value for a 144hz FHD screen

+ Great colors & contrast

+ Beauitful, sturdy design

REASONS TO AVOID
− Some rare user defects reported

As much as we’ve raved about the top Acer choice for the average user, we’re pleased to report that those after a cheap secondary monitor for gaming have an option just as compelling

The G2490VX packs an incredible amount of value in its price tag.

The big changes that make this an ideal choice for gamers compared to our pick above are the fantastic 1ms response time & 144hz refresh rate. For anything from competitive to single-player titles, we can’t attest just how lovely it is to play on a high refresh rate display with very low input lag.

Now, as much as we like 144hz @ 1ms, what really gives this monitor such a high score from us is how AOC produced a screen quality that excels across the board: offering good color accuracy across DCI-P3 and sRGB, fantastic contrast, and decent brightness.

Even if the monitor had similar specs to our top pick outside of refresh rate/response time, we still would’ve been impressed, so adding better contrast, color and brightness is such a huge value add at the price.

The monitor runs off a VA panel, which compared to IPS, tends to offer better blacks at the cost of slightly inferior viewing angles and color. That said, we don’t think the monitor lacks in any of these departments, VA makes sense as its typically cheaper to produce a low response time screen at this price range (to put it another way, we don’t think you’ll find an IPS screen of the same quality at this price).

Most user reception of the G2490VX has been very positive, but it’s worth pointing out a small number of buyers who have had issues with defective panels/dead pixels.

We don’t consider this a reason not to invest as the AOC warranty here (including for dead pixels) is quite generous compared to some competitor options.

Between its picture, build, and price, we’re delighted that the G2490VX (and its 27″ counterpart) are available for those after a cheap second screen for gaming, it’s a fantastic choice that exceeds many options available at higher prices.

HP VH240a

Best Cheap Second Monitor for Streaming

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 24″ | Panel Type: IPS | Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Refresh Rate: 60Hz | Response Time: 5ms | Brightness: 250 nits | Color: 72% sRGB | Contrast Ratio: 1000:1

Our Rating: 85%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Fantastic adjustable build

+ Good picture

REASONS TO AVOID
− Too expensive if you don’t plan on using vertically

When it comes to purchasing a good second streaming monitor, one of the very common utilities we like to see is being able to align your monitor vertically (this often suits looking at chat, Twitch/Youtube analytics, and other second screen content best for streamers).

With that in mind, the VH240a is HP’s answer to what our top Acer pick accomplishes so well: a cheap yet high-quality jack of all trades monitor.

Its specs are similar (other than the larger 24″ screen) with a good (albeit somewhat average) color/contrast, and the same 250 nits of brightness.

Where the HP VH240a vs Acer SB220Q battle differs is in adjustability, the HP offering is one of the cheapest vertical monitors available, with a fantastic stand and durable build that would be suitable for work environments and regular movement.

That said, it comes at a premium: the VH240a runs at around 30% more expensive (at the time of review) compared to the 24″ version of our top pick.

If you’re a streamer or worker that could value a vertical alignment (e.g. programmer), we think the adjustability can be worth it.

But if you expect to just use your monitor in the traditional landscape orientation, the HP screen is great, but not worth the premium over cheaper second monitors like our top pick.

Sceptre E205W-16003R

Cheapest Second Monitor Worth Buying

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 20″ | Panel Type: TN | Resolution: 1600×900 | Refresh Rate: 75Hz | Response Time: 4ms | Brightness: 250 nits | Color: 99% sRGB | Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

Our Rating: 80%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Very cheap

+ Surprisingly thin and well-built

+ Picture is a good quality

REASONS TO AVOID
 − Not full HD

 − TN panel

− Better options available at only slightly higher prices

Although our top choices are already at very competitive price points, we appreciate some readers will just be looking for the cheapest option possible (perhaps those who only have very basic uses in mind for their second screen).

If this sounds like you, this Spectre offering is the cheapest second monitor on the market that we would recommend (yes, you can go cheaper, but you’ll be met with no-name manufacturers and screens of awful quality).

The e205W boasts some decent colors (we’re pleased to see 99% sRGB) and a good contrast despite its low price. The quality is decent, with the major caveat being its 1600×900 resolution means it’s not suitable for full HD content.

It’s a tiny monitor, at only 20″; for some second screen users, this may be a nice pick if you don’t want a large, imposing screen. It also means that the 900p resolution isn’t too problematic because the screen is small enough that the pixels per inch (PPI) will still look crisp.

We’re pleased to see that the monitor doesn’t look cheap, with a decent, sturdy build quality that includes some basic ergonomic tilt options.

One larger point to consider on picture quality is the TN panel this screen is built on.

TN (typically speaking) is good at offering decent specs at very low prices, which is why its compelling for budget options. A major problem with the panel type, however, is its poor viewing angles.

When you are not looking at the monitor dead-center, the screen can become more washed-out and unclear.

For a usual budget offering, we’d say this is manageable and made up for with the decent contrast and color, but as we’re considering a second monitor, we expect most users won’t be looking dead center at this screen (it will instead be off to their left or right). It’s still certainly usable, but it’s another reason to fork out a little more for an IPS/VA offering.

All things considered, we think the 10-15% it usually costs to upgrade to our top choice is worth it over this Spectre pick.

That said, if every cent counts, or you want the best small second monitor, this is still a great choice.

ASUS ZenScreen

Best Cheap Second Screen for Laptop

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 15.6″ | Panel Type: IPS | Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Refresh Rate: 60Hz | Response Time: 5ms (GtG) | Brightness: 250 nits | Contrast Ratio: 800:1

Our Rating: 90%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Beautiful crisp screen for the price

+ High-quality build

+ Single cable for power & connectivity

REASONS TO AVOID
− More expensive than no-name manufacturer options

What if your setup isn’t static? If your idea of a cheap second screen involves portability/laptop use, the ZenScreen is our favorite option.

The screen boasts a decent IPS screen with an excellent PPI (1080p at 15.6″ is going to provide some very crisp content).

The brightness and contrast are mediocre but serviceable, we would’ve liked to see a slightly higher nits rating considering the portable intention of the device (something to consider if your laptop environment is often very sunny), but overall, it’s a high-quality offering compared to other devices at its price range here.

The exception to this rule is if you are willing to purchase from smaller manufacturers. The portable monitor market has way more no-name suppliers who don’t have the brand power (and by extension, support/warranty) as big names like ASUS, but certainly offer some pretty compelling products at cheaper prices if this doesn’t worry you too much (this screen is a great example, offering similar specs at about 30% cheaper).

Another plus we will give the ZenScreen specifically is its build quality. It’s important to consider design and durability when you’re picking up a portable offering; the screen is deceptively thin, lightweight, and includes a high-quality sleeve that allows you to align the device horizontally and vertically.

If you like the look of the ZenScreen but want a cheaper option, ASUS also produces a 768p version at a significantly lower price (we don’t rate this version as highly and think most users will appreciate the full HD screen, but it’s still a good product if you can’t afford the 1080p version).

Overall, between its high-quality internal and external setup, we still consider the ZenScreen the best budget second laptop monitor and think it’s worth the slight premium over other options.

Spectre U275W-UPT

Best Cheap 4K Second Monitor

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 27″ | Panel Type: IPS | Resolution: 3840 x 2160 | Refresh Rate: 70Hz | Response Time: 5ms | Brightness: 350 nits | Color: 99% sRGB | Contrast Ratio: 1000:1

Our Rating: 85%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Incredible price for 4K

+ Great connectivity options

+ Pleasing design

REASONS TO AVOID
− Better specs & larger size might be appreciated for 4K users

The U275W is an impressively priced 4K choice for a cheap dual monitor setup. At a price-point not that much higher than our 1080p/1440p picks, it doesn’t just boast an incredible PPI (UHD @ 27″ is very crisp), but also some good secondary specs.

The contrast, color accuracy, and brightness are all at a good middle range, and we’re pleased to see the monitor not skimping on design or connectivity either.

The main gripe we have with this cheap UHD monitor is that, while its picture is of decent quality, when you’re considering a 4K monitor, we imagine many of you are professional users (video/photo editors) or content enthusiasts demanding the highest quality picture.

Even though this Spectre offering has a good screen, 4K is a premium market, and you will see the benefit in higher color accuracy/better contrast & brightness if you invest more in an alternate option.

If you’re a gamer, a 4K 144hz screen will serve you better (these aren’t cheap, but if you’re running a 4K gaming PC, we think you should be expecting to spend to match the quality of your PC).

We would, for example, say it’d be better to combine a higher quality primary 4K monitor, with a cheaper 1080p/1440p option.

Also, given the pixel density of a 4k screen at 27″, unless you are very close to your monitor or simply like the higher PPI possible, we think many 4K-enthusiasts will prefer 32″+, where the benefits of 4K can be observed by lesser-trained eyes.

That said, this is still a gorgeous, crisp screen and we’re recommending it for a reason. We know some users will want a mid-range 4K offering at a decent price, this Spectre pick excels at providing just that far better than any other option we’ve come across.

Spectre E275W-QPT

Best Cheap Second 1440p Monitor

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 27″ | Panel Type: IPS | Resolution: 2560 x 1440p | Refresh Rate: 75Hz | Response Time: 5ms (GTG) | Brightness: 300 nits | Color: 99% sRGB | Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

Our Rating: 90%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Decent specs for the price

+ Good screen size for crisp 2K image

+ Good build quality

REASONS TO AVOID
 − Poor speakers

1440p is a wonderful compromise between 4K and 1080p, especially for a secondary screen.

At 27″, 2K is a sweet spot, offering a crisp image without being, for many eyes, overkill.

The E275W stands at the top of the pile. Boasting a very impressive price point that rivals some of our earlier 1080p picks, the screen is gorgeous.

Like the 4K Spectre pick above, it boasts a good picture quality with mid-range specs for brightness, color, and contrast.

It’s also a similarly well-built device with good connectivity across HDMI and DisplayPort (there is limited adjustability in its stand however if that is important to you).

There is little we don’t like about this Spectre offering unless you happen to want decent onboard speakers, the ones on offer here are pretty poor quality so we’d recommend combing them with decent headphones or standalone speakers.

Overall, the E275W hits a really nice sweet spot for those after a budget second 1440p monitor, at a very fair price, you’re not just getting great resolution but a screen that feels mostly mid-range in quality.

Spectre E275B-QPT168

Best Cheap 1440p Second Screen for Gaming

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 27″ | Panel Type: IPS | Resolution: 2560 x 1440 | Refresh Rate: Up to 165Hz | Response Time: 1ms | Brightness: 300 nits | Color: 99% sRGB | Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

Our Rating: 95%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Great balance between spec and price  for gaming

+ Sturdy build

REASONS TO AVOID
− Notably more expensive than our top 1080p gaming option

If you like the sound of the above 2K display but have gaming in mind, this pick is for you.

On top of the crisp 1440p resolution at 27″, decent brightness/contrast, and good color, the E275B earns our gaming recommendation above its other 2K brother by boasting a 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

We can’t speak highly enough of what a great combination of specs are on offer here for the price. Providing you have the gaming PC to run it, single-player and competitive titles alike are going to not just look fantastic, but feel snappy and responsive.

The monitor boasts great connectivity too, with 2 x HDMI and 2 x DP 1.4 (worth noting that HDMI is limited to up to 144Hz, but this is still a fantastic refresh rate if you don’t want to use DisplayPort).

AOC G2490VX vs Spectre E275B-QPT168

The only reason we wouldn’t recommend the Spectre pick for gamers is its price.

Overall, it’s an excellent figure for what’s on offer, but we do appreciate our top AOC 1080p gaming pick is notably cheaper (as we’re reviewing second screens here, unless your primary monitor isn’t gaming-focused, this may be overkill for some users).

But if your idea of a cheap second screen for gaming includes excellent resolution on top of great secondary specs, this Spectre screen is our favorite pick for you.

Spectre C305B-FUN200W

Best Cheap Second Ultrawide Monitor

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 30″ | Panel Type: VA | Resolution: 2560 x 1080 | Refresh Rate: Up to 200Hz | Response Time: 1ms | Brightness: 250 nits | Color: 99% sRGB | Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

Our Rating: 80%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Good balance of specs

+ Great for productivity & gaming

REASONS TO AVOID
 − Low brightness

− Too expensive for many dual-screen setups

If your idea of a second screen includes a wider form factor for more immersive content with fewer bezels interfering with your viewing, or if you’re someone in-between picking up 1 or 2 extra monitors, this pick is for you.

The C305B is an ultrawide monitor, which, as the name implies, means it is significantly wider (21:9 aspect ratio, compared to the standard 16:9 screen, so just over 30% wider).

This can be a wonderful choice for many types of content; working on an ultrawide can be a dream, but this specific choice also excels at gaming with an impressive 200Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

The brightness is a little low at its price-point for 250nits, but we appreciate the 3000:1 contrast ratio produced by its VA panel, which means you can expect decent blacks/whites in spite of the low brightness (providing you don’t have too much sun glare).

Important note: This pick, with its low response time and high refresh rate, has been recommended with gamers also in mind, if your pure focus is on productivity, see our other 1080p ultrawide options for cheaper choices.

We do like this ultrawide display, but it gets the lowest score on our list purely because of today’s focus on the best second monitor for PC setups with cost in mind.

We expect it’s not what many people have in mind for their price range, and a majority of you will prefer our traditional 16:9 picks.

Still, if you do have a slightly larger budget and want to fork out extra for the wonderful immersion for gaming and content on offer in an ultrawide, this is a great offering for you.

Philips 325E8

Best Cheap Second Large Monitor

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 32″ | Panel Type: IPS | Resolution: 2560×1440 | Refresh Rate: 75Hz | Response Time: 5ms (GTG) | Brightness: 250 nits | Contrast Ratio: 1200:1

Our Rating: 95%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Good size and resolution for an amazing price

+ Elegant design and good build quality

REASONS TO AVOID
− Picture specs are good, but not great

Many of the options on this list hover in the 20-27″ range.

So to wrap up the list, we wanted to highlight an excellent offering from Philips for those after a larger second monitor.

And what a great choice it is; boasting a 1440p resolution, we appreciate Philips not opting for 1080p here (at 32″, you’ll begin to notice the pixel count more, 2K is a great balance between crisp image and price).

The other specs are all respectable, with a decent response time, color rating, and contrast ratio running on an IPS panel. We would’ve liked to see 300-350 nits brightness and slightly better color accuracy included, but like many options on this list, we’ve focussed on price first.

And it’s really worth highlighting the price of the Philips offering as a huge deal; most larger monitors come with a hefty premium, so to not only get 32″, but also 1440p, at a price range not too much more expensive than some of our other picks is an incredible deal compared to the other competitors’ options we reviewed.

Even if the picture quality is “good, not great”, we still think the 325E8 is a very good product and easily our pick for the best budget large second monitor available today.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it! We’ve been through a lot of cheap second screens today, if that leaves you a little confused on which to choose, our top overall pick is an excellent choice for the average user, we would pick the size that best matches your primary monitor and go with that if you’re in doubt.

The Best Pink Monitors in 2022

Pink Monitor

The Best Pink Monitors & Alternatives in 2022

For those with fabulous taste

Pink Monitor

We’re sorry to say there is a severe lack of high-quality pink monitors available in today’s market. In fact, there are only a couple we’d recommend to any of our readers, some with limited availability.

But fear not, today’s feature is not just the best pink display options available, we’ve also collated some great alternatives that will still fit nicely when creating a pink PC setup.

Top Picks
Best Pink Monitor 1

Samsung M8

Overall Best Pink Monitor

SPECIFICATIONS*

Screen Size: 32″ | Panel Type: VA | Resolution: 3840×2160 | Refresh Rate: 60Hz | Response Time: 4ms (GtG) |Color Rating: sRGB 99% | Brightness: 400 nits | Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

Our Rating: 85%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Stunning build quality and aesthetic

+ Fantastic blacks with HDR10 & high contrast panel

+ 4k at 32″ provides a very crisp image

REASONS TO AVOID
 − Quite expensive

Although there aren’t many pink monitor offerings available in today’s market, we’re pleased to say that the Samsung M8 is a fantastic choice for many people looking.

First, this is simply a stunning display both in build quality and specification.

With its slim yet sturdy design feeling built to last, alongside the elegant pink and white color combination, this is one of the best-looking monitors of any category we’ve come across. We expect it tastefully complementary in most pink PC setups.

But as important as the aesthetic is, the real value of the M8 comes from its screen.

With a stunning 4K display at 32″, the pixel-per-inch rating (PPI) is very crisp, with no visible pixels at comfortable viewing distances.

But what really sets the M8 apart is its fantastic 3000:1 contrast ratio, 400 nits brightness, and HDR10+ support.

The combination of these 3 specs (using its VA panel) gives it fantastic blacks and whites compared to other similar market options.

Alongside the excellent contrast is a respectable 99% sRGB color accuracy (nothing to write home about, many monitors at this price point will offer this, but there’s no denying the picture will look stunning with the resolution and blacks working alongside the colors on offer).

The M8 is also designed with smart usage in mind, with a whole host of very intuitive UI, additional smart home features, and the included SlimFit camera – > This would be a worthy choice as a TV/monitor hybrid device for a living room.

The M8 would certainly work as a pink gaming monitor pick; with 4K, low 4ms latency, and crisp blacks making single-player experiences, in particular, stand out.

That said, we think most gamers would prefer the high refresh rate available in our alternative pick further below if this is your main focus.

Aside from that, there’s very little not to like about this Samsung offering other than the price tag (there’s no denying it’s a particularly expensive monitor compared to many mid-range competitors due to its overall quality and included features).

If you have the budget for it, the M8 is easily our top choice for the best pink monitor overall. Between its specs, build and design, it feels like the full package.

Apple 24" M1 iMac

Best Pink Monitor All-in-One PC

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 24″| Resolution: Retina  4480×2520 | CPU: Apple M1 8-Core | GPU: Apple M1 8-Core | RAM: 8GB RAM | Storage: 256GB (or 512GB)

Our Rating: 90%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Gorgeous, slim aesthetic

+ Well-balanced specs for mid-range use

+ Stunning retina display

REASONS TO AVOID
− Includes the usual Apple premium price-tag

If you’re earlier into your journey of creating your dream pink setup (including deciding what PC you want), we think you may well be interested in this next choice.

The iMac, as many of you probably know, is an all-in-one PC monitor, which means your computer itself is included within the display (which is why this offering is significantly more expensive).

One of Apple’s latest rollouts includes a simply stunning pink/red monitor hybrid that is well-built, elegant, and with its in-built PC, designed to look minimalist and uncluttered in a pink setup.

But it’s not just a pretty product, running underneath is the macOS alongside 8GB RAM, 256/512GB storage, a Radeon Pro 555X GPU& the fantastic M1 processor, this iMac strikes a great balance between suiting most mid-range personal/professional users while not going too overkill.

But another reason we feature this so highly in a pink monitor feature is the immense quality of its screen.

With a 4K retina display at just 24 inches, the crisp PPI on this device is insane compared to a large majority of devices on the market. Apple rarely disappoints when it comes to producing very high-quality displays and this iMac is no exception; it’s one of the most beautiful all-in-one PC screens available and pretty much every type of content will look stunning.

Of course, with all of this boasting, comes the price tag; Apple is well known for charging a premium for its products and the latest iMac is no different. With that price tag, you will get a fantastic jack-of-all-trades PC, but combining say, a budget white monitor with a pink PC would be a good alternative if you don’t have the budget for this PC or the expensive pink monitors that are available.

That said, if you’re interested in the nice, smooth experience that Macs tend to offer, alongside a stunning device inside and out, the pink iMac is our top pick for you.

Sceptre E248B-FWN168W

Best Pink Gaming Monitor Alternative

SPECIFICATIONS

Screen Size: 24″ | Panel Type: VA | Resolution: 1920×1080 | Refresh Rate: Up to 165Hz | Response Time: 1ms MRPT | Color Rating: sRGB 98% | Brightness: 320 nits | Contrast Ratio: 1000:1

Our Rating: 90%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Fantastic price-point

+ Great latency and response time for gaming

+ Gorgeous, well-built white aesthetic

REASONS TO AVOID
− VA panel with average contrast ratio, we would have preferred to see IPS

You might be scratching your head a little: this isn’t a pink gaming monitor.

You’d be right, but unfortunately, there isn’t a single pink gaming display on the market that we’d recommend. If you’re a gamer (even one focusing on a great aesthetic) we still think having the right internal specs is going to be more important.

Now with that said, we don’t think that means your pink setup should have to settle for a plain-old black monitor that stands out in your color scheme. A white display is a fantastic palette-complimenting option and there are some really excellent products available.

At the top of these choices is this Sceptre offering that ticks an impressive amount of budgets despite its low price tag.

Its main two gaming-centric features over our other top picks are its 1ms response time and fantastic 165Hz refresh rate (both work together to make this a monitor suitable for anything from single-player to competitive titles, we can’t attest just how much of an upgrade a high refresh rate, in particular, can feel over 60Hz).

1080p, while not as high-PPI as our top picks, will still look good at 24″. The combination of 1080p @ 165Hz will be a comfortable balance between monitor specs and what your gaming PC can likely output in terms of graphics settings and FPS (there are premium monitors out there with more capability, but unless your PC and GPU are very high-end, you may not be able to utilize their full potential anyway).

If you happen to have a larger budget and want something above the price-point of our top gaming pick, Sceptre has a premium white offering that boasts a 40″ QHD curved screen, up to 165hz, and fantastic picture quality. While many of you will be very happy with our top choice, larger budgets (especially those with high-end PCs) will really appreciate the immersion this more expensive screen can offer.

Note: for completion, there is one good “gamer girl” monitor for pink setups in the AOC AG273FXR. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, it’s exclusively sold in Singapore.

If any compelling pink gaming monitors enter the market with wide availability, we’ll be updating this article to include our review and recommendation if warranted.

Until then, don’t fret, this Sceptre offering is fantastic on the inside and out, and even if you’re focussed on a monotone color setup, we really think this is the best pink gaming display alternative as it will tastefully complement the rest of your aesthetic while also giving you a screen that performs excellently for gaming.

Best Pink Monitor Cover: Monfurise 20″-29″ Cover

If you’re disappointed by the lack of pink offerings, a great alternative for you may be this cute pink monitor cover that would work perfectly with the common mid-20″ black monitors on the market.

Best Cheap Pink Monitor

We appreciate many of you may be looking for budget pink monitor options.

Unfortunately, because of how limited this aesthetic is, there aren’t any cheaper mainstream options we’d recommend (if they become available, we’ll be updating this feature to include worthwhile ones).

We think your best bet as an alternative to a cheap pink monitor is picking up one of the many great white monitors available (like our top gaming pick above), these will still look great in any pink-focussed setup (especially compared to a black display).

If however, you’re insistent on a pink monitor, there are some available on Chinese wholesale websites like Alibaba. These monitors may look too good to be true and that’s usually because they are; these cheaper monitors come at a lower quality, higher risk of faults, and generally a more headache-inducing experience.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it! While we appreciate some of you may be disappointed by the number of pink monitor options available, we really think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by these picks; and if not, we’ll again recommend the white monitor options on the market as a great alternative for a pink setup.

The Best 2TB Flash Drives in 2022

2TB-Flash-Drive

The Best 2TB Flash Drives (and Alternatives) in 2022

Finding the best option in a sea of fakes

2TB-Flash-Drive

Are 2TB flash drives real? No – As of 2022 there are no mainstream 2TB options available on the market.

We’re glad you found this post though, as there are unfortunately a huge plethora of fake options around online marketplaces.

Today’s feature is here for 2 things:

  1. We’ll keep it updated as the situation with 2TB pen drives changes (eventually they’ll appear, and when they do, we’ll review the best ones)
  2. Until then, we’ve detailed your best authentic alternatives to a 2TB flash drive below (and how to spot fakes)

So, let’s get to it…

Top Picks

A quick word on fake 2TB flash drives

If you looked on one of the popular online marketplaces, you’d probably be surprised that we’re saying all 2TB pen drives are fake because there are so many of them listed, and some even have good reviews!

Unfortunately, today’s scammers can be pretty deceptive and the storage market in particular (including SSDs and HDDs) seems to attract a huge amount of fakes.

Typically, fakes use smaller flash drives and rewrite them to appear larger. For example, this could be a 128GB drive that pretends it’s 2TB, but as soon as you fill up to 128GB, the drive will stop working.

What makes this harder is that some of these pages also use a page that previously had a lot of great reviews for a different flash drive, then is edited into a fake page (in other words, although lots of good reviews is usually a good sign, there’s still a possibility that you’re looking at a fake product).

How do you spot a fake flash drive?

There is no sure-fire way, which is why we highly recommend you stick to our recommendations in this article and our other memory features.

However, if you want to stray to other picks, stick to the big-name brands (Samsung, Corsair, SanDisk, etc.) and practice the rule of “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is” (in other words, if you see a flash drive that is 20% of the price of a Samsung equivalent of the same size, it is almost definitely fake).

That all sounds very pessimistic, but fear not, we have a couple of excellent alternatives to share.

SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO

Best 2TB Flash Drive Alternative

SPECIFICATIONS*

Capacity: 1TB | Read/Write Speeds (up to): 420/380Mbps | Input Type: USB 3.2 | Weight: 0.64 ounces

Our Score: 95%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Fantastic real-world speeds

+ Durable build quality

+ Lifetime limited warranty

REASONS TO AVOID
 − Expensive

Although there are no 2TB thumb drives available on the market, the best 1TB flash drive around is a fantastic alternative.

The SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro is a very popular market choice for a reason. on top of the 1 terabyte storage capacity, this device really shines due to its fantastic read write/speeds.

Not only is up to 420/380Mbps a great starting point, but real-world benchmarks tend to show the PRO performing similarly in real world scenarios (this is an important distinguishment, some drives advertise fast speeds but fall down under real tests).

SanDisk also has excellent onboard encryption if you are dealing with sensitive data that needs protection (and simple software included to get you started).

We think the aspect that solidifies this Sandisk flash drive as our top choice compared to its competitors, however, is its longevity.

Not only does the PRO boast a fantastic, sturdy build quality, but SanDisk also includes a lifetime limited warranty.

Durability is an underrated buying factor of flash drives considering how much we move them around, but even the most durable of drives eventually encounters problems.

This is why a lifetime limited warranty is such a great perk and, in our opinion, justifies the slightly hefty price tag.

(It’s worth adding that the lifetime warranty is at the time of writing this feature, please check that this is still the case in the region you’re purchasing).

If you want other 1TB options, we have a full feature breaking other ones down in detail (including cheaper options).

Note: We see some customer reviews exclaim annoyance at how the drive they receive is around 920GB in usable space as opposed to the advertised 1TB

Although we appreciate it’s frustrating, this is something that every storage manufacturer does; the drive is 1TB, but flash storage does not operate well when filled to full capacity, so nearly every decent supplier portions a section of the drive (usually around 10%) for longevity and data security.

In other words, assume you’re getting a 920GB drive, no matter which 1TB product you’re looking at.

With all that said, we love the Extreme Pro, not only is this the best 2TB thumb drive alternative, but it’s arguably the best flash storage in any category.

Sabrent Rocket Nano 2TB

Best 2TB Drive

SPECIFICATIONS

Capacity: 2TB | Read/Write Speeds (up to): 1,000/1,000Mbps | Input Type: USB 3.2-C (includes type-A adapter) | Weight: 1.6 ounces

Our Score: 90%

REASONS TO BUY

+ Incredible SSD speeds

+ One of the smallest SSDs available

+ Competitive price for size

REASONS TO AVOID
− Warranty inferior to SanDisk pick

− Overheating can lead to occasional drops in performance

Now although this article is about 2TB flash drives, we really think that many of you will end up preferring this alternative (even to a 2TB pen drive if they were on the market!).

A solid-state drive is a type of flash memory and for the novice user, is essentially providing the same function.

The most favorable difference is twofold: first, there are 2TB solid-state drives (and much larger ones if you’re interested) and secondly, ones like the Rocket Nano, which run on NVMe architecture, can reach speeds of up to 1000Mbps read & write.

This is an incredible increase in speed compared to our above pick and would make it a great 2TB gaming flash drive alternative (or any PC/Mac user who appreciates fast transfers in general).

What’s more, real-world benchmarking indicates the device does well in actual speed testing too.

Traditionally, one of the drawbacks of an external SSD compared to a pen drive is its size, they’re usually much larger.

That is not the case with the Nano. It may still be slightly larger and heavier, but it’s overall still extremely portable (and thinner than our top pick).

Aside from that, the only tiny difference to bear in mind is that a thumb drive has a USB output directly sticking out of it (so it conveniently attaches to your laptop/desktop).

With an external SSD like the Nano, you have a cable that runs from your PC to the drive. It’s still very portable, but if you’re the type of user who is constantly moving around with your laptop every 15 minutes, you will probably like the convenience of our top pick over an SSD alternative.

If you haven’t heard of Sabrent, they’re a major player in the storage space and play in the same league as SanDisk and Samsung, so we’re pleasantly surprised to see how they manage to pick this immensely small drive with not only such a large capacity but a respectable price too.

You may be asking why we score this device slightly lower than the SanDisk 1 TB flash drive with everything the Nano has going for it.

That is mostly down to the change in warranty. As of the time we write this, the Nano comes with a 1-year standard warranty (3 years limited if signed up for within 90 days).

This is pretty typical for most drives, but as we’re comparing it to a device that has a lifetime limited warranty, it’s a signifinat drop.

SSDs tend to fail in the 8-10 year mark (with proper care), so having the lifetime warranty is a real value add.

That said, the Nano is a durable, aluminum-built device (and storage technology moves on a lot in 10 years, you may not even care for a replacement that far down the line).

If lightning-fast speeds, better price-per-byte, and a drive that is exactly 2TB are things that matter for your storage, then the Nano is an amazing choice and undoubtedly the best 2TB flash drive alternative for you.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it! Although this article is focused on alternatives right now, as real options emerge, we’ll be sure to update this feature with the best 2TB flash drives available.

But right now, there is no sign of these emerging on the market, so we don’t recommend waiting for them. Picking up a couple of 1TB flash drives or a tiny 2TB solid-state drive is definitely going to be the best option for you.

The 10 Best 144hz Curved Monitors of 2022

144hz Curved Monitor

The 10 Best 144Hz Curved Monitors of 2022

Monitor curvature is a feature you have to experience for yourself to appreciate what a difference it can make for your setup.

Even the more modest curves are better suited to the human eye’s radius compared to a flat screen, not to mention the additional immersion such a display can provide while gaming.

The best monitor brands are picking up on this, and introducing some really compelling options.

But which one is right for you?

Today’s feature is here to guide you through the best 144hz curved monitors available; this category is perfect for a mid-range gamer looking for something special for their next setup.

Top Picks

Quick-Fire Picks

Best 144Hz Curved Monitor (27″): ASUS TUF VG27VH1B

What a fantastic offering this is.

What we consider to be ASUS’s best monitor, the VG27VH1B represents an unmatched sweet-spot between size, refresh rate, picture quality, curvature and build, all wrapped into a fantastic lower mid-range price.

To start with, this is one of the cheapest Freesync premium monitors available (also G-sync compatible) which is integral to a high refresh rate display to avoid ghosting, screen tearing, and other unpleasant visual discrepancies.

Speaking of refresh rate; while this is by default, a 144hz monitor, it can be overclocked up to 165hz. Both of these rates will offer a silky smooth performance. These high Hz ratings work alongside a very fast 1ms MRPT response time.

This is is a great latency/refresh rate combo for the price, and we expect this pairing to fully satisfy mid-range immersive and competitive gamers alike.

Picture quality is another stand-out for the VG27VH1B.

The monitor is based on a VA panel; while we know some users prefer IPS, this ASUS offering boasts excellent contrast, a 120% sRGB color gamut, and of course, hasn’t compromised on the 1ms response time (which is often where cheaper VA panels fall down).

All of these great specs are tied together in its 27-inch screen, which we think is a sweet spot size for most users (but have larger/smaller options below if preferred).

The curvature used is 1500R, which is essentially a “medium intensity curve” (lower is more curved, the most common range is 1200R – 1800R).

Don’t assume that a more intense curve is better though, it’s a personal taste. In our experience, 1500R is a great middle-ground; notably more immersive without alienating people used to flat screens too much.

Its build quality is sturdy and bezels are close to frameless, so would work perfectly in a multi-monitor setup if desired.

The ports are quite basic, with D-SUB and HDMI as your display options (i.e. no DisplayPort); however, we expect 99% of users will be OK will have HDMI connectivity available.

What else is there to say? We are simply floored by this offering; it seems like a steal for the price, but also doesn’t cut any corners.

If you’re after the best 144hz curved monitor around the mid-range mark, we think you’ll really love this pick.

2022 update: The VG27VH1B remains our top pick in 2022, no other competitor has matched its fantastic balance between price, picture quality and build.

Best Cheap 144Hz Curved Monitor (24″): AOC C24G1

AOC often positions itself in the market as the best budget gaming monitor brand, and the AOC C24G1 is one of the shining examples of its capability.

Despite coming in at around a 20% lower price point, this AOC gaming monitor is very similar to our top pick. The significant reduction here is the screen size (from 27″ to 24″, which can be notable for some gamers’ tastes).

If you’re looking for a 24-inch gaming monitor, however, then you’ll still be getting a wonderful 144Hz (with an overclocked 165Hz option available), 1ms MPRT response time, good picture quality, full HD VA panel and Freesync enabled (while not officially G-sync compatible, plenty of users have reported it working once setup).

The build quality of the C24G1 is similarly great, with an excellent small-bezel design. We appreciate that despite its budget market placement, it still boasts great height adjustability in its stand.

It would have been easy for AOC to go for a 1800R curve as a budget option, so we love that they have still managed to install a 1500R VA panel here to match the ASUS offering.

There’s also a DisplayPort output available too (alongside 2 x HDMI 1.4 & 1 x VGA), offering unrivaled connectivity at its price-point.

We’re really impressed with this AOC offering; while the ASUS screen boasts better value for 27″ users, if you are ok with a smaller display or simply on a tight wallet, then know this is easily the best budget 144hz curved monitor today and still powerful enough to provide a great gaming experience.

Best 1440p 144hz Curved Monitor: MSI Optix MAG27CQ

MSI is a gaming brand that needs no introduction. In the monitor space, we rate them highly for this offering alone.

Striking an incredible price balance for those after a QHD 144hz curved monitor, this is one of the premium offerings on the list, but still carries a deceptively low price tag for what you’re getting.

To start; if you’re using a mid to high-range CPU/PC setup, a 2560 x 1440 resolution display is really something you should be considering. Playing games at 2K is a sight to behold, and many setups are now able to run this monitor spec comfortably.

For 27 inch displays+, this resolution is also a great addition for general use, as this is about the size where pixels begin to become apparent on a 1080p screen.

But we love the MAG27CQ for a lot more than just 1440p; still boasting the 1ms MPRT rate of our FHD options, as well as an impressive color gamut and contrast for its VA panel & Freesync compatibility.

To get a monitor similar in quality to our top pick with an improved resolution for only a 10-20% increase in price is absolutely worth it if you have the extra budget.

As you would expect from a brand like MSI, the monitor is also beautiful.

With a sturdy build quality and 2 subtle red lights running down the back, we appreciate how the MAG27CQ looks and feels like a premium monitor, even for its mid-range price.

It’s worth pointing out that the MAG27CQ has a 1800R curve which is slightly less than the picks above; this spec still offers great immersion and will be nice for newcomers to curved monitors. But if you’re looking for something more intense, then we would recommend going with the AOC CQ27G2 (which is a 2k 27″ version of our budget pick, an excellent screen).

With all that said, this MSI offering is not just the best QHD 144hz curved monitor, but also one of the top choices for someone in the mid-range; forking out that little more for the upgraded resolution in this fantastic package is really worth it.

Best 144Hz Curved Monitor (32″): AOC C32G1

We are back to AOC for those after a large 144hz curved monitor.

The C32G1 is, in many ways other than its 32-inch size, similar to our previous AOC pick.

And we mean this in a good way; boasting the same 144hz (or 165hz option), ultra-fast 1ms MPRT latency, Free-sync compatibility, and gorgeous colors/contrast for its VA panel.

You are, of course, paying more for the screen size increase, but that is to be expected. It’s worth it if your setup space demands it (or you’re simply the type of user that likes to be engulfed by a larger screen).

Note that this monitor comes with 1800R curvature instead of the budget choice’s more intense 1500R rating. While this might sound surprising, some larger screens tend to offer a more modest curve because higher curves (for some users) can become more jarring on larger screens. It really is all personal preference though, and 1800R is still enough to provide a much improved immersive experience other than a traditional flat LED.

Boasting a bigger version of the excellent build quality seen in our first AOC pick, we appreciate that the unit feels sturdy enough for its larger screen (note that there is no height adjustment, which is often to be expected on 32-inch+, there is still, however, tilt adjustability).

If you do want a larger screen with more curvature and a 1440p resolution (which would be excellent for 32-inch users), then we would recommend the Samsung Odyssey G5 as a more premium option.

But for mid-range users who are after the big screen, without compromising on high refresh rate, low latency, and price, then the C32G1 is the best 32-inch 144hz curved gaming monitor for you.

Highest Refresh Rate & Most Curvature: Spectre C248B-1858RN

The last of our main highlights is for those mid-range users who are willing to go with a slightly budget brand for higher Hz and a significant curvature increase.

While not as big as say, ASUS or MSI, Spectre is by no means an unknown manufacturer and we consider them one of the best companies for cheap gaming monitors.

For a very reasonable price, the C248B comes with a 165Hz screen capable of outputting up to 180Hz with DisplayPort. This is a fantastic achievement and begins to rival the smoothness of the next step up; 240hz.

Now, onto curvature: with a 1200R rating, the C248B has one of the strongest curves in the 144hz curved gaming display market (remember, it’s a matter of taste, but we know some users after the most absorbing gameplay will appreciate 1200R).

Despite these two impressive features and the price, the C248B still boasts a 1ms MPRT response time (3ms GTG, which is slightly slower than some of our other top picks but still very fast overall), a VA panel equipped with a decent 95% sRGB color gamut and 3000:1 contrast ratio (these specs are also a little lower than others, but still capable of providing an excellent picture for the price).

On top of that, the monitor has support for G-sync and AMD Freesync premium, both nice to see, but the latter in particular is not often found at this price.

Spectre hasn’t compromised on the design either; with a beautiful “frameless” thin-bezel front frame, sturdy build with VESA mount option, and even a tasteful red light ring around the back, you would be forgiven for thinking this wasn’t a more expensive offering!

The unit even still comes with built-in speakers (though we would never recommend onboard audio for gaming, with much better headphones solutions available).

If 24 inches is too small for you, you’ll notice that there is a 27-inch listing associated with the Amazon listing. While the C275B-1858RN is a great gaming monitor in its own right and similar in a lot of ways, it carries a 3ms MPRT response time. If you’re just into single-player/immersive titles, this is fine, but if you’re a competitive gamer you’ll want the luxury of lower latency. The Samsung Odyssey G5 is the best choice if you’re focused on the high curvature alone. But if you also want the highest framerate possible, check out the curved picks on our 1440p 240hz feature.

The C248B really is an impressive feat from Spectre; combining a very high refresh rate and curvature at an impressive price, while we think the average gamer might prefer the slightly superior picture quality of the other top picks if you’re most interested in Hz and curve, this is an excellent choice for you.

Alternative Picks – Best of the Rest

While the top 5 are our main picks for the average mid-range gaming user, we’ve included a couple of other quick-fire considerations for those after something very premium, cheap as possible, or simply fulfilling a more niche category that we expect will be preferred by the occasional user with specific requirements

Best 144Hz Curved Ultrawide Monitor: Acer Nitro XZ342CK

If you want to take your immersive gaming experience to another level, there is nothing quite like an ultrawide screen.

Boasting UWQHD and lots more, we’ve already gushed about this display in our 1440p 144hz ultrawide feature.

Cheapest Curved 144Hz Monitor: ViewSonic VX2768

If you want the curved 144hz monitor experience but are on a very tight budget, Viewsonic is the king brand of building the cheapest displays in each category.

And it’s still a decent choice in its own right, with only a 3ms GTG response time and slightly reduced color gamut/contrast capability standing out, but considering it’s a 27″ at the price of our budget 24″ choice? There’s no shame in picking it up if it’s the top of your budget.

Best Budget 144Hz Curved Ultrawide Screen: VIOTEK GNV34DBE

If you like the sound of our top UWQHD pick in the Acer Nitro but need to think as cheaply as possible, VIOTEK is a great brand at covering premium options at the lowest price possible.

The GNV23DBE is one of their best offerings, which we’ve covered in the best 1440p 144hz ultrawide display feature.

Best Curved 144Hz IPS Monitor: LG 34GL750-B

We know a lot of users are big fans of IPS and will be after this panel type.

We would point out that a lot of the VA top picks above perform surprisingly well for colors for a mid-range setup, and this is probably why there is a surprising gap in the market for decent IPS choices.

But if you are set on this panel type, this LG UW monitor is a fantastic choice. If you are keen on a normal aspect ratio, however, we recommend the IPS panels in our 1440p 240hz feature.

144Hz Curved Monitor Cheap Alternative: Samsung CRG5

Last but not least is a choice for those on a budget but still after a display from one of the leading monitor brands.
Samsung’s CRG5 is an impressive offering with decent picture quality and the same silky-smooth refresh rate as our top picks.

The display’s 2 “lesser” features are a slower 4ms response time (fine for immersive titles, a little shoddy for esports) and a lesser 1800R curve (good for newcomers to curved screens, if you already use them, you may prefer something in the 1200R-1500R range).

The 8 Best 4k 144hz Monitors of 2022

4K-144Hz-Monitor

The 8 Best 4K 144Hz Monitors of 2022

4k & 144Hz together in one monitor? Between these and the new 1440p 240hz choices, the next generation of displays is mouth-watering.

Which is why today’s feature will take you through the best 144hz UHD monitors for gaming and more, with several different budgets in mind.

Top Picks

Best of the Rest: Quick-Fire Picks

Overall Best 4k 144Hz Monitor: LG 27GN950-B 27 Inch UHD

Standing confidently as our overall best pick, this 4k high refresh rate monitor stands tall amongst the market options, with a fantastic sweet spot between specs and value.

Perhaps the most impressive part of our top choice is how LG has managed to make this an IPS panel with a 1ms response time. Usually, the tradeoff for IPS (which typically gives better picture quality over equivalent VA/TN panels) is higher latency. Having both low response time and IPS is usually reserved for the premium models, but the 27GN is one of the cheap 4K 144Hz display options on the list!

The specs also boast a DCI-P3 98% color gamut (an impressive offering for the price-point with all the other features) and VESA DisplayHDR 600. Between these two factors and the IPS panel, the picture quality on this LG gaming monitor is mind-blowing and will be enjoyable even if you’re running games at less than 144 FPS (you can expect movies and general use to look great on here too).

With full G-Sync / AMD Free Sync compatibility you can still enjoy the extra smoothness these software add-ons offer even on such a high res 144HZ monitor.

The design and build quality of this monitor is excellent too. Adjusting the unit feels sturdy and secure, with VESA screws for wall mounting if desired.

Our favorite elements of the build, however, are the thin bezels and RGB sphere lighting 2.0 on the back. This lighting means that colors are outputted on the wall behind your monitor and are designed to blend into the sound and/or visuals on your screen. This sounds gimmicky but tied in with the fantastic screen-to-body ratio, the extra light feels immersive, and the tiny bezels mean this pick works fantastically in a dual monitor setup.

This isn’t just the best 27-inch 4k 144Hz monitor, but in our opinion, the best overall choice for people in the market today (the fact that this is on the cheaper end of the choices is a complete marvel).

2022 update: The 27GN950-B remains our top pick for those after a 4k 144hz display. Yes there are some cheaper options below, but if you’re after this specification, we imagine you’re looking for a display with picture quality, build and  design that matches the incredible base specs – LG does it best here.

Best Cheap 4K 144Hz Monitor: VIOTEK GFI27QXA 27-Inch

Although we think the LG pick offers fantastic value, we appreciate that such high-end monitor options may not be flattering to many reader budgets.

Luckily, the cheapest 4K 144HZ gaming monitor going is still a great offering that doesn’t feel like you’re “cheaping out” on a budget pick.

Boasting an IPS panel, a 122% sRGB color gamut, 1M:1 DCR, this display is still going to provide fantastic colors, whites, and blacks you’ll want while gaming or watching media (the picture won’t look quite as good as the LG pick, but it will still be fantastic when you consider the dramatic price reduction).

The build quality is great here too. With a sturdy stand, fairly thin bezels, and plenty of movement options, this is another area that doesn’t feel compromised on in the lesser price.

So with all that said, you may be wondering why we didn’t give this the overall top quick. Well, there’s a couple of things to point out:

  • The response time is a tad misleading. It is listed officially as 1ms, but documentation with the monitor talks of a 3ms latency. This is likely due to 1ms being the refresh rate under “optimum conditions” but we would recommend assuming that you’ll be playing with 3ms (still very low for a budget IPS display).
  • You may have noticed that this is officially a 120Hz 4k monitor overclocked to 144Hz. For the most part, this is an ideal option as it saves price, but a minority of users report some problems with very slightly visual stuttering on 144Hz where they have to turn back to 120Hz to remove. But for most gamers, this works fine, and there is a 3-year U.S company warranty if any concerns arise.

We should state that neither of these should be dealbreakers and this VIOTEK offering still manages low latency, great colors/blacks, and a superb build quality alongside its high refresh rate and 3840×2160 resolution.

This choice is easily the best budget 4k 144Hz monitor available today.

Best Large 4K 144Hz Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG43UQ 43”

Now, for those after a larger gaming experience, this ASUS 144HZ 4K monitor comes in at a whopping 43-inches. Perfect for someone who wants to use a gaming monitor as a TV or for a massive main monitor (I’ve previously had a similar setup where you effectively use one screen as a “dual display” when not gaming, it can work really well.

This ROG Swift model comes with a fantastic HDR1000 rating and 90% DCI-P3 color gamut. Both specs are great, but the HDR 1000, in particular, is awesome.  You can expect this to have some of the best whites and blacks of any high end LED gaming monitor.

Another Freesync / G-sync 4k display, this ASUS screen also features GameFast Input Technology that results in an effective 1ms response time (we really appreciate how they haven’t compromised on latency when many larger monitor offerings do).

This display is beautiful and well built, with its 4K 144Hz functionality being fully enabled with a GPU by only 1 DisplayPort 1.4 input. The bezels are a tad larger than most of the other picks. But at this size? It’s not really a surprise, and they’re still thin compared to many other monitor choices.

ASUS has really nicely filled that large monitor gap in this market by creating the PG43UQ. If you’re looking for a huge 4K 144Hz monitor, this is definitely your best option.

Runner-Up Best 4K 144Hz Monitor: Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ 27″

We wanted to highlight another great all-rounder pick, as we appreciate that 144Hz UHD monitors are sometimes low in stock and our LG choice may not be available when you’re looking to buy.

ASUS has a monitor in the 27-inch range that is, in some ways, even more compelling than the LG 4k 144Hz display.

Another IPS panel, this ASUS SWIFT screen has a wonderful HDR1000 rating and 97% DCI P3 color gamut. With these specs (especially the impressive high dynamic range), you can expect fantastic whites, blacks, and colors that even slightly surpass the top LG monitor.

The PG27UQ is also one of the nicest builds on the list. With an incredibly sturdy durable design, ASUS answers LG’s backlighting options with its own take: an ARGB ASUS logo on the back (and a customizable logo shining from the bottom of the display). We always rate ASUS’s addressable RGB lighting as it tends to go nicely with their Aura Sync software to give a user a unique look, so you can expect this monitor to look great in the dark.

The reason we would pick the LG monitor over this one is that the ASUS ROG Swift, unfortunately, runs at 4ms as opposed to 1ms. Now, if you’re not buying a monitor for gaming, this won’t be a problem. But we expect many readers looking at a UHD high refresh rate monitor will be after something with as low latency as possible for inputs.

If low latency isn’t a high priority for you then this ASUS monitor does offer a better picture, the only other con we’d point out on this choice is a minority of users complaining about loud fan noise. Most seem to be fine with this, but if achieving an ultra-quiet setup is your plan, bear this in mind.

With one of the nicest builds and picture qualities on the list, the PG27UQ is our top 4k 144HZ monitor pick for the average user if our LG option isn’t available.

Alternative Picks – Best of the Rest

While the top 4 picks are what we’d primarily steer you towards when looking for the best 4K 144Hz monitors for gaming or media, there are some other great options and similar alternatives (e.g. 120Hz 4K monitors). We’ve displayed the best below for those with more unique requirements.

Best OLED 4K Gaming Monitor: Alienware AW5520QF

Quite possibly the best gaming monitor on the market today. This Alienware display will have, by far, the best picture quality on the list with its OLED screen. The fact that it runs at 120Hz alongside that is simply wonderful.

So why don’t we rate it for most users? We think you’ll see why after looking at the price! But by all means, if you have the budget for the most powerful setup possible, this is perfect for you.

Second Best Budget 4K 144Hz Monitor: Acer Predator XB3-27″

If you are after a cheap 4k 144Hz gaming monitor but wanted something from a more reputable monitor manufacturer, then this refurbished Acer model is perfect for you.

Best WQHD 120Hz Monitor: Alienware AW3420DW

While not 4K or 144Hz, WQHD is very impressive and significantly higher-res than traditional 1440p. We think someone in the market for a premium screen for gaming will really appreciate the level of immersion an ultrawide high refresh rate monitor can offer.

Worth Mentioning: Nixeus NX-EDG274K

Another 144Hz 4K monitor option in the mid-range price, this Nixeus offering is decent, but we don’t rank it as much as our top LG pick (which is in the same price range) due to its slower response time (4ms) and coming from a less known monitor brand. That said, if you catch it on a good sale, this would make a great budget 4K 144HZ gaming monitor pick.

The 5 Best 1440p 144hz Ultrawide Monitors in 2022

1440p 144hz Ultrawide

The 5 Best 1440p 144hz Ultrawide Monitors in 2022

1440p, high refresh rate, and ultrawide in one monitor?

If you’re in the market for a new display, some of the best monitor manufacturers have recently put together incredible offerings that meet all of these impressive specs. These displays offer some unique capability for immersive gaming, media, and large screen real-estate for productivity.

Which is why today’s feature is here to take you through the top 1440p 144hz ultrawide monitors worth buying today.

Top Picks

Alternative Quick-Fire Picks

Overall Best 1440p 144hz Ultrawide Monitor: Sceptre E345B

Although all 5 of our top 21:9 1440p 144hz monitor picks are worthy contenders for the top pick, this Sceptre display was our clear winner.

Impressively balancing features, picture quality, build, design, and a low cost for the technology, the E345B feels amazing for its price.

Let’s start with the obvious: boasting a QHD 144hz ultrawide resolution/refresh rate, what really impressed us is that despite being one of the cheapest choices on the list, the E345B includes all of these specs in an IPS panel while still maintaining 1ms MPRT response time.

Higher latency is often the core sacrifice of IPS. So having this panel, alongside 1ms means the colors are vibrant and complementarity immersive alongside its 3440×1440 monitor resolution. The monitor also boasts a descent 99% sRGB color gamut, where you can expect to achieve a great picture alongside the AMD Radeon Freesync Premium compatibility (and although not officially supported, some users have claimed that G-sync works without issue).

This cheap 1440p 144hz ultrawide monitor hasn’t skipped corners in the build quality either. With a durable, sturdy design and a fantastic screen-to-body ratio, it feels and looks like a premium product.

The ports are decent and what we’d expect for a high-end gaming monitor too, with 2 x DisplayPort, 2 x HDMI (1 1.4 + 1 2.0), and 1 x audio out.  Sceptre doesn’t seem to have really “cut corners” in any area we would expect to see in a budget 1440p 144hz ultrawide gaming monitor.

If you can afford our more expensive picks, then yes, they will have some superior picture quality specs available (or other notable features like screen curvature).

But in its budget price-range, the E345B is unrivaled, and easily the best 1440p 144hz ultrawide gaming monitor in terms of value.

Best Curved 1440p 144hz Ultrawide Monitor: AOC CU34G2X 34″

The next offering is not just one of the cheapest curved QHD 1440 144hz ultrawide monitors, but also one of the best choices in the technology.

With a 1500R curvature, the curve in this monitor isn’t underwhelming; it’s a significant change to how content/gaming is viewed and really adds to the immersion that we know users after a QHD ultrawide monitor value.

AOC has gone for a VA panel with this pick. We know many readers prefer IPS panels; however, this UWQHD display includes a 115% sRGB / 98% Adobe RGB color gamut and some fantastic contrast. Between these specs, you can expect a picture that is even more vibrant than our Acer pick (which already has a great picture as it is, the CU34G2X is just that little bit more stunning).

The build quality here is similarly effective. With a solid, durable design and some very small bezels on the sides and top, we love how this monitor looks/feels. On top of that, AOC offers an impressive 3-year warranty covering dead-pixels, technical faults, and even a rather unique 1 year 1-time warranty for accidental damage (hopefully you won’t need any of these, but warranties are not all made equally, so having these backups adds some nice peace of mind when making a monitor purchase).

The race between this AOC monitor and our top Acer display was a pretty close one. With its strong curve, fantastic warranty, and improved picture quality, it was tough for us not to give this monitor the best overall price. However, we suspect that for many users, the reduced price of the Acer display will be more important.

That said, if you can stretch your budget to the 34″ CU34G2X, then it is an incredible offering and one of the best 144hz UWQHD gaming monitors available.

Best Premium 1440p 144hz Ultrawide Monitor: Acer Nitro XZ342CK Pbmiiphx 34″

Now, with our above 2 picks, we’ve focussed very much on value for money, representing the mid-range pricing for this technology.

However, if you’re after the best 1440p 144hz ultrawide display, it’s close between this choice and the AOC monitor above, but we think the XZ342CK takes the prize.

With a high-quality, 1ms VRB VA panel capable of diminishing ghosting and combined with a fantastic color gamut, Freesync support, and 1500R screen, this Acer gaming monitor ticks many of the same boxes that our top two choices provide.

Where the Pbmiiphx 34″ goes one step further is in its fantastic 400-nits brightness/HDR400 support. Our top Acer and AOC monitor picks have 250 and 300-nits brightness respectively, so this is a notable jump and perfect for achieving a fantastic contrast ratio. Some users have even reported that the brightness can achieve closer to 500-nits in some common benchmarks. Either way, the picture on this monitor is stunning for immersive gaming, movies, and general work.

While this Acer display is worth the extra price-tag for the contrast ratio/brightness alone, another bonus we like is that some users have reported this monitor working at 165hz. While 144hz is already a fantastic, high refresh rate and is the official support, the prospect that you can potentially squeeze an extra ~10% smoother fps in games is exciting (though we recommend assuming this is just a nice-to-have and not a guarantee).

Last but not least; the build quality is similarly great to our top two picks. With its zero-frame (i.e. tiny bezel) design and strong stand/wall mount options, we have no complaints about the structure of the XZ342CK.

Important note: When comparing the XZ342CK vs CUU34G2X, this Acer model was only 10% more expensive. However as some of you may know, Amazon listings occasionally have massive short-term price inflations if a monitor is low in stock. So just to be clear; although this is our premium choice, we don’t think it’s worth more than a slight cost increase over the AOC monitor above, don’t spend 25%+ to get this instead.

With all that said; between its gorgeous colors, brightness, low ghosting, and fantastic curvature, this Acer Nitro screen is what we consider the best HDR 1440p 144hz ultrawide gaming monitor on the market for those with the budget.

Best Cheap 1440p 144hz Ultrawide Monitor: VIOTEK GNV34DBE 34-Inch

As far as cheap UWQHD 144hz monitors go, our top E345B choice actually fits the bill perfectly and is usually at a similar price point (and more readily available in terms of stock) compared to this VIOTEK offering

However; the GNV34DBE is curved with the same 1500R rating as our two most expensive choices above.

For its price and everything else this screen has going for it, this is an insane value offering.

Running on a VA panel combined with a 116% sRGB / 87% DCI-P3 color gamut, the screen quality is still fantastic despite its lower price-point and even boasts 350-nits brightness, way more than we’d expect for a cheap ultrawide QHD 144hz display.

With all the expected HDMI/DisplayPort/USB outputs, a good design/build quality, and Freesync/G-sync monitor support, this VIOTEK offering ticks nearly all the boxes we want to see.

There are two minor pitfalls when compared to our other choices:

  1. The response time for this particular monitor is 4ms (by OD measurement) – don’t get us wrong, this is still perfectly decent for gaming, but may be slightly more at risk for minor ghosting/may be a problem if you’re very sensitive to certain motion, though we expect most users will be fine (as per the thousands of positive reviews).
  2. This monitor is unfortunately consistently out of stock and not as well available as our other choices. If you happen to see it in stock, great! But if not, we would recommend purchasing one of the other great options on this list instead of waiting for what could be a while.

VIOTEK may not be the same large monitor brand compared to Acer and AOC, but they’re still a reputable manufacturer with a warranty for this specific model that nearly rivals AOC’s fantastic policy.

If you want the cheapest curved UWQHD 144hz gaming display on the market that still retains some great quality, this is a fantastic option for you.

1440p 144hz Ultrawide Monitor Honorable Mention: Nixeus EDG34S

While note quite claiming the top accolades we award to our 4 above picks, this Nixeus monitor is still worth considering if the other 21:9 gaming monitors are out of stock (or grossly inflated in price due to low availability).

Boasting a wonderful balance of specs for its price, this 3400 x 1440 144hz ultrawide monitor has gorgeous blacks by combining a VA panel, 350-nits brightness, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. The color gamut on this monitor isn’t quite as impressive as our other picks, but will still provide an excellent, vibrant picture overall.

With G-Sync, Freesync, and a 1ms PTR response time (4ms GTG), the EDG34S is well equipped to reduce ghosting, screen-tearing, and flickering to a bare minimum.

The build quality is also superb; with VESA mount capability, decent tilt stand, durable design, and wonderfully thin bezels. This is another curved UWQHD 144hz monitor too, with the same 1500R curvature that makes our top picks so immersive for gaming and media.

There is very little not to like about the EDG34S. We just think that at its price-point, it’s a slightly lesser value option than the other choices.

But we’ve included it for a reason; if you’re after a monitor with deep blacks, great response time, and all the makings of a great gaming display, this Nixeus offering is still one of the best ultrawide 1440p 144hz monitors on the market.

Alternative Picks – Best of the Rest

Now, while the above 5 picks are easily our top choices for the top 1440p 144hz ultrawide displays, we wanted to provide a few extra decent picks that come close to the same specs for those of you with very specific requirements (or if you’re unlucky and none of the above are in stock while you’re searching).

Best IPS 1440p 120hz Ultrawide Monitor: Alienware AW3420DW

Previously featured on What in Tech, this Alienware high refresh rate UWQHD gaming monitor is a fantastic offering for high-end visuals and build quality (at only a slightly decreased refresh rate compared to our top picks).

Best 1440p 240hz Ultrawide Monitor: SAMSUNG 49-inch Odyssey G9

The highest refresh rate 1440p ultrawide monitor, the Odyssey G9 would be perfect if your single most important goal is high performance in e-sports and titles that demand very high refresh rates. We’ve also featured it in our 1440p 240hz monitor feature.

Cheapest 1440p 120hz Ultrawide Monitor: Monoprice 35in Zero-G

The Monoprice Zero-G doesn’t excel anywhere better than our top picks and comes with a tad reduced 120hz. That said, at the time of viewing, it appears as 25% cheaper than our top Acer choice. If saving that money is more important than the extra hz and slightly better picture, we think this is a great budget choice.

Best 1440p 100hz Ultrawide Monitor: Sceptre C355W-3440UN

Similar to the Monoprice monitor above, this Sceptre offering is worth consideration as a budget choice. It’s one of the least powerful on the list, but still, an excellent contender if you’re not able to reach the prices of the above top 21:9 monitors.

Final Word

And there you have it! 1440p 144hz ultrawide is a simply mind-blowing set of monitor specs for gaming and general use. Picking up any of the above will serve you well for a long time, and we don’t see 4k 144hz ultrawide becoming the norm for a long time, so you can consider these future-proof monitors!

Want more options for a premium gaming monitor? We also have features on other very impressive high-end display technology; 1440p 240hz, 4k 144hz, and the highest Hz monitors available.

The 5 Most Expensive Gaming PCs Worth Buying in 2021

Most Expensive Gaming PC

The Most Expensive Gaming PCs Worth Buying in 2021

With the latest RTX 3000 series GPUs hot on the market, now is a great time to buy a gaming desktop.

And with the premium RX 3090 being one of the most impressive powerhouse options in a long time, buying a high-end PC is even more of an attractive option.

But there are several listings out there overcharging for gaming PCs with lesser GPUs/CPUs and other hardware.

Which is why today’s feature is here to guide you through the most expensive gaming computers actually worth buying today for those after the most powerful setup possible.

Top Picks

Most Expensive Gaming PC Top Pick: ASUS TUF GT301

We’ll start by saying this is the most expensive pre-built gaming PC on the list, and arguably overkill for some needs (our next pick is for the best value premium gaming PC).

However, if you’re after the most powerful gaming computer today regardless of cost, then the ASUS TUF GT301 will not only meet your expectations but likely exceed them.

Boasting possibly the best specs you’ll find on the market today, the GT301 is led by the unmatched RTX 3090 GPU which, when tied with the right CPU/RAM/Motherboard, outputs incredible performance.

Not only do you have a gaming PC capable of unrivaled ray-tracing, high FPS, and maximum settings in practically every game today (and undoubtedly many well into the future), but the hardware on offer here is enough to support a very premium monitor setup for immersive titles or esports.

Options like 1440p 240hz, 4k 144hz, 1440p ultrawide 144hz & the highest Hz monitors available aren’t just possible with the GT301, but recommended to maximize your setup and show you just how amazing the 3090 can be.

But as good as this GPU is, this is the card shared by most of our top choices. What sets the GT301 apart are its other specs.

With an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, you have the best premium CPU on the market today for gaming. This is the perfect processor to match up to the great power of the RTX 3090 and ensure you get the best performance across games (and pretty much any other type of task you can throw at it).

Elsewhere is an X570 motherboard, the high-end choice for AMD’s AM4 chipset (perfect to host such a powerful build) and 128GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM.

128GB is an insane amount and you’ll be hard-placed to find a gaming PC with more RAM than this.

With that said, this spec is where we see a bit of overkill with the GT301, you’re not going to see any real-world performance increase creative to the cost over the 64GB version for gaming. We’d go with the cheaper model (or our pick directly below) if your only concern is a future-proof gaming PC. The only exception to this rule is if you’re looking for a high-end production/video editing PC, then this extra RAM can help (but isn’t required, the cheaper models on this list are still very powerful).

Finally, the storage on the GT301 is what you would expect for a premium gaming computer; with 2TB NVMe + 4TB HDD installed in the 128GB RAM version, this is an insane offering and even with today’s enormous titles, it’s hard to imagine you’ll need more.

All tied together in an extremely durable ASUS case & appropriately powered by an 850W PSU, the GT301 really feels like the full package.

Note: It’s worth adding that while we like the power of the high-end AMD processor and think it provides the best capability for someone after the best gaming desktop possible, there is an Intel version of this desktop which is only slightly behind in power (we’re talking a few average FPS in games) and worth considering for slightly lower budgets.

Yes, you’ll find some even more expensive gaming desktop PCs on the market, but anything past this line is of no real-world benefit to you; the GT301 is today’s best pre-built gaming computer.

Best Expensive Gaming PC Value Pick: HP OMEN 30L

As we alluded to in the GT301 review, we appreciate some readers may have a large budget, but still want some semblance of finding the best value gaming PC in the high-end price range (minimizing diminishing returns, etc.).

If that is you, then the HP OMEN 30L is the perfect pick.

Hitting the sweet spot between performance, build quality, and price, the 30L represents the best balance for a premium gaming desktop that doesn’t go heavily into the “overkill” territory.

Boasting an RTX 3090 graphics card, i9-10850K CPU & 32GB RAM @ 3200MHz, not only are these specs more than capable of high-end gaming and pretty much all of the high-end resolution/Hz setups we detail for our top pick, but you also have a powerhouse machine here for anything else you need to do (from general use to production work).

We have gone with the liquid-cooled i9-10850K version as we believe it’s the best value, but you can choose a version with the i9-10900K, which will perform nearly on par with our top choice’s processor. In gaming, this difference will likely only amount to 2-5 average FPS depending on the game; with the 10850K/RTX 3090, you already have enough power for any modern game at high specs (Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and future titles for at least the next few years).

One of the more notable spec drops compared to our top pick is the 1TB SSD. Don’t get us wrong, this is still plenty of space and more than enough to get you started; but if you’re the kind of person who likes to keep all your games installed, we expect you’ll want a little more storage.

The good news is you can very easily upgrade the storage in the 30L and it’s a much cheaper option than buying more pre-built. Picking up say, a 2TB HDD would likely be the perfect secondary storage solution for most gamers.

Lastly, the build quality and design on the 30L work to its credit, with a minimalist aesthetic and good cooling for a pre-built machine, with all the usual ports you’d expect (including a USB type-C on the back) and Windows 10 pre-installed.

What else is there to say? With the best balance in the high-end market, the 30L is a beast of a computer.

If you’re looking at the most expensive choices but still want the most bang-for-your-buck, then this is, without doubt, our top pick for the best value premium gaming rig today.

Most Unique Expensive Gaming PC: CUK Continuum

We know that an important part of buying one of the most expensive gaming PCs on the market for some readers will involve picking up an offering that is not just powerful, but visually striking.

No offering fits the bill better than the CUK Continuum Micro computer.

Yes, you’re seeing the picture right; this unit is built with a custom infinity mirror PC case.

Stock photos do not do it justice, this unit is simply stunning.

Not only is the chassis a Micro ATX form factor, meaning it’s smaller than the ATX units on the list (aside from the MSI Trident) but is also still built with a good amount of airflow and 6 RGB fans pre-installed. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more impressive gaming PC aesthetic than this that still balances good cooling.

But the reason we love the Continuum is that it’s not just a pretty face.

On top of its build quality/fan cooling, the specs in this machine are some of the best on the list and come close to rivaling our top pick, with:

  • The wonderful RTX 3090 capable of 4k, high refresh rates, and very high settings across all titles
  • Intel Core i9-10900KF, the most powerful gaming CPU on the list with the exception of the Ryzen 9 5950X (however, they are very close, and the Intel represents better value)
  • 128GB DDR4 RAM, an insane amount and suitable for much more than gaming (production/rendering usage, etc.)
  • 2TB NVMe SSD and a 4TBHDD, matching our top pick’s storage, it’s hard to imagine ever needing more (but upgrade space is there if so)
  • Z490 motherboard designed for high-end Intel desktops
  • A decent 850W PSU appropriate to power this top-end machine

For the price, this is a really impressive list of specs, and out of all the options on the list, this is the pick that comes closest to matching the hardware of the top ASUS pick at a lower price tag.

The only difference is the CPU choice, with our top ASUS pick going for the best gaming CPU on the market; the 5950X.

But (and it’s a big but), at the time of reviewing these options, the Continuum is a few hundred dollars cheaper. The difference in CPU performance isn’t worth that much unless you simply don’t care about the budget.

If you’re after a unique aesthetic that doesn’t compromise in any spec area, this CUK offering is easily one of the best premium gaming computers on the market and will be perfect for anything you can throw at it.

Most Expensive Compact Gaming PC: MSI MEG Trident X

If you’re interested in a premium gaming rig that is a little smaller, either for aesthetics or portability, the Trident X is a great option.

Boasting an RTX 3090 GPU, an Intel Core i9-10900KF & 64GB of RAM, you have some very powerful specs to achieve max-setting gaming and high-resolution/FPS setups.

Tied with its thin form factor, the Trident X is one of the best-looking gaming PCs around; with a beautiful build quality and changeable RGB lighting through MSI’s custom software.

While it’s not tiny, it’s certainly small enough to act as a portable rig for VR demos, LAN parties, etc. Its thinness also makes it very flexible for limited-space setups.

We also appreciate how the unit includes a 2TB HDD on top of the 1TB NVMe SSD base-storage to ensure you have plenty of room for gaming.

This combination of specs at the price is a fantastic deal for a high-end gaming computer.

So with all that said, for its great price, why do we not rank this about the 30L for the best value premium gaming desktop?

The main reason is that although this unit is usually capable of coping with the demanding needs of high-end gaming, we worry that its modest cooling solution and tight internal space for airflow is a slightly risky setup when looking at the most expensive gaming PCs because these units demand a lot of power and output notable heat.

The concern here is that users may run into issues with uncomfortably high temperatures when running demanding games/software.

Usually, we wouldn’t highlight this as a factor, as we don’t believe this will be a common occurrence for the Trident X and is more of a minor risk.

But when we think of readers looking for the most expensive gaming computers on the market, we imagine part of that pursuit is finding a computer that ticks all the boxes, so even an increased minor risk over another choice is something noteworthy.

Additionally, although the Trident X has twice the RAM, its base clock speed is 2933MHz as opposed to the 30L’s 3200MHz – both setups are going to provide very similar results, but when we get into this RAM sizing, you can expect the RAM speed to matter more than the RAM size for gaming (and 3200MHz is a nice sweet-spot speed for larger RAM profiles).

The battle between this and the 30L was close, however, and we’ve included it in the feature for a reason.

The Trident X still represents a fantastic selection of top-end parts to create a build that is somehow compact and still one of the most powerful gaming PCs on the market.

Most Expensive Quiet Gaming PC: VCI Vulcan 3090

Last but not least, we’ve included an option that matches many of the similar specs as our other top offerings and combines them with a Fractal Define R-Series case, which is, by far, our favorite chassis for silent gaming PC builds.

The VCI Vulcan is lead by the RTX 3090 GPU, an Intel Core i9-10850K processor, and 64GB DDR4 RAM. If you’ve been reading through this list, you’ll know that this is a great combo for a high-end gaming machine and can easily handle all modern (and many future) gaming titles at very high settings, resolutions, and frame rates.

The unit also comes with all the usual extras you would hope for in a gaming PC; decent ports (including USB type-C on the back I/O panel), Windows 10, Bluetooth & a Wi-Fi adapter (Intel 6 AX201).

Despite being designed for noise-dampening, the beautiful minimalist case the VCI Vulcan runs in doesn’t just very impressively minimize decibel output but manages to still be well equipped for decent cooling and airflow, even for a build of RTX 3090 caliber.

The only reason we put this offering towards the bottom of the feature is because its price is not as fair for the provided specs as our other options.

Yes, these are all the most expensive gaming desktops around, but there is still a value consideration in this article – and the Vulcan seems a little more pricey for what you are getting.

But if your singular focus is on ensuring a silent gaming computer setup, then this is easily the best high-end option available to you.

If for whatever reason, the Vulcan is out of stock/not matching your requirements, it’s worth noting our top value pick, the HP OMEN 30L, is also hosted in a decently quiet chassis (and only really makes notable noise if you’re playing very demanding titles).

Most Expensive Gaming PCs Final Word

And there you have it! After much deliberation, the above choices are our top picks for the most expensive gaming computers worth buying today.

We always emphasize “worth buying” because we’ve focussed on ensuring we’re not recommending an expensive pre-built gaming PC that bloats the price tag of its premium offerings (as many we came across did).

We chose based on finding high-end choices that hit the sweet spot between balancing top budgets with the best gaming CPU, GPU, RAM configurations & other secondary considerations (cooling, build quality, etc.).

If these are a little outside of your budget, then don’t fret! We have features around a larger budget range of gaming PCs, and also gaming desktop bundles for those also after a monitor/keyboard & mouse inclusion.

But if you can stretch to the above choices, then you’re in for a fun time! There isn’t a gaming title today that these choices can’t handle!

The 12 Best Motherboard CPU Combos of 2020

Motherboard CPU Combo Cover

The 12 Best Motherboard CPU Combos of 2020

Deciding what order to buy your gaming PC parts in is hard.

One of the worst offenders is choosing which CPU & motherboard you should pair.

With countless variations, the whole process is unnecessarily confusing.

Which is why we’ve collated the best CPU motherboard combinations available for all different sizes, purposes & budgets.

This is a long feature – we recommend scrolling to the headings you’re actually interested in instead of reading it top-to-bottom.

 Table of Contents

AMD vs Intel CPUs/Motherboards

No feature on this topic would be complete without a say on the “is AMD better than Intel?” battle.

We’ll keep it short as there’s already a lot of good info on this topic.

For this generation of CPUs, both flagship models from each manufacturer give great performance for gaming and other build purposes.

But if looking at the numerous benchmarks available for games/production for both brands with price in mind: AMD tends to have an edge.

Many of the current-gen Intel CPUs are fantastic.

But on average, you’re usually paying a little more for the performance you can get from the AMD alternative.

A lot of credit is given to Intel for its integrated graphics processors on many of their CPUs.

But really, we find this a borderline moot point.

Anybody seriously building for gaming/production/streaming is going to want a standalone graphics card.

For motherboards, the AMD versions tend to be cheaper also (with the exception of Mini-ITX).

Short answer: We’d push you towards an AMD build to get the highest value CPU motherboard combos.

But we do understand some people are just more comfortable with Intel.

Don’t fret – know that the Intel motherboard combos we’ve recommended below are still great for their respective price-points.

With that said, let’s get into it:

Overall Best AMD Motherboard CPU Combo:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X with ASUS ROG Strix B450-F

To start off our list, we’ve chosen what we think is the best gaming CPU motherboard combo available for an “all-round”/mid-range build.

The AMD Ryzen 7 3700X is a fantastic accomplishment in CPU engineering.

Offering 8 threads and 16 cores with a max frequency of 4.4GHZ, this AMD processor packs an incredible punch for its competitive price.

Its utility will hit the sweet spot for what most gamers need.

You have a great basis here for a powerful gaming build that will accompany some intensive GPUs (including multi-crossfire builds).

Tied with some decent VGA hardware, this CPU is more than capable of running a 1440p/4k gaming PC.

The included stock cooler also performs decently and looks great with its color-controllable LED lighting.

Outside of games, the 3700x is very capable of general multi-purpose PC tasks (benchmarking well in tasks across the board, not just gaming fps tests).

Meaning it’s a great CPU for streaming, video editing, production, and more.

If this is the budget you have for a processor, we really can’t recommend it more.

The ASUS ROG Strix B450-F is a popular motherboard for a reason.

With its ATX form factor and B450 chipset, the ASUS mobo has pretty much everything we expect a majority of gamers to need.

You’ve got:

  • 3 PCI-e slots for a multi-GPU build (or integrated sound/network cards as required)
  • 4 x DDR4 RAM slots
  • Dual NVMe M.2 storage options
  • Great onboard sound
  • Gorgeous RGB lighting and 2 headers for a great RGB build.
  • Stylish and well-equipped I/O panel

It’s a great motherboard for overclocking, with lots of good onboard features as well as a great, user-friendly BIOs.

For the price, we really think the Strix B450-F hits the sweet spot between offering features without reaching “diminishing returns”.

If we had to choose one CPU/motherboard combo to recommend for the majority of gamer computers (and other production needs), this is it.

Overall Best Intel Motherboard CPU Combo:

Intel Core i7-9700K with MSI Z390-A PRO

Our top Intel picks are also a great hardware pairing.

They perform a tad better but cost a fair chunk more as we discuss below.

The i7-9700K is, with performance-per-$ in mind, the best Intel CPU for gaming today.

The processor packs 8 cores/threads and the very impressive capability to overclock up to 4.9Ghz.

It performs excellently across gaming tests and tied with a good GPU (or 3), will grant you excellent performance for games and other tasks.

Certainly more than capable of being the basis of a powerful 1440p/4k gaming build.

i7-9700K vs Ryzen 7 3700X

These frontline CPUs have faced off in loads of benchmarking tests.

The short answer?

They come out very close.

The i7-9700K performs slightly better in most gaming FPS tests, but not enough to be decisive.

The Ryzen 3700X tends to perform marginally better at other computational tasks (anything from unzipping files, to compression, to multi-tasking).

Because of this, we would certainly recommend the R3700X if you’re interested in also building a PC for streaming, video editing, and/or production work.

Now, you may think that makes the Intel CPU the best choice for gaming.

We’d agree if you happen to see them at the same price.

But nearly always, the 3700X (and accompanying motherboard) work out significantly cheaper.

That saved budget would be much better spent on buying a more expensive GPU, the AMD CPU will still be able to work with a very intensive VGA demand.

The MSI Z390-A PRO is one of the best value Intel motherboards on the market.

An ATX form factor mobo, it has excellent overclocking facilities (with some nice bells and whistles like an extended onboard heatsink).

The main features include:

  • 2 x PCI-e ports (1 with reinforcement to reduce GPU sag, though don’t read into this as a huge deal)
  • 4 x DDR4 / DIMM slots
  • NVMe support
  • Good onboard sound
  • I/O panel that includes USB 3.1 type C output

You’ll note it has 1 less PCI-e port than our top AMD offering.

While this would be a nice addition, we doubt many of you looking at a mid-range build will require more than 2 (if you do and want to stick to Intel, check out our high-end pick below).

It has everything you’d expect in a decent mid-range Z390 motherboard and works great alongside the 9700K.

Best Budget AMD Motherboard CPU Combo:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 With ASUS TUF B450M-Plus Gaming

As far as cheap AMD CPUs/motherboards go, the below pair is the best value combo for gaming.

You can go cheaper, but these next AMD/Intel combos are the lowest we’d recommend for most gamer needs.

If however you just want a PC for general use/light gaming, see our “cheapest” picks further below.

The Ryzen 5 3600, as far as cheap gaming processors go, is our favorite.

Providing great performance for a 1080p/1440p gaming build, you’re still able to run some decent graphics hardware alongside this CPU.

Offering an impressive 6 cores, 12 threads, and max 4.2 GHz, it’s got an impressive spec for a budget processor.

The included Wraith Stealth cooler is not the best on the market but will get the job done for a budget gaming build if you don’t want to buy standalone.

You still have enough power in this processor to stream and perform other intensive tasks (respecting that they, of course, won’t be quite as fast as the more expensive builds).

Overall what you get for the price in this CPU is fantastic.

If it’s as far as your budget can stretch, you’re still going to be able to create a great PC for gaming.

The Asus TUF B450M-Plus Gaming is a great cheap AMD motherboard option that still offers everything you need for most games.

It’s a Micro ATX form factor, which is more cost-effective than their ATX counterparts (including cheaper cases).

The board includes:

On top of it still having reasonable overclocking capability, features like NVMe M.2 / RGB inclusions are really impressive for the low price point.

You’ll likely just be buying 1 GPU for a budget gaming build, but it’s nice to have the option to expand with the second PCI-e slot later on.

Overall, this cheap CPU motherboard combo still has everything you need to play the latest games at reasonable settings.

Best Budget Intel Motherboard CPU Combo:

Intel Core i5-9400F With Asus Prime Z370-P II

Our budget Intel combo is also worth your consideration, especially if they happen to be cheaper/on a deal whenever you’re browsing.

Note: it seems that manufacturers are fading out the Z370 chipset motherboards.

We’ve included the best value one below but if made unavailable, your best bet will be to tie the i5-9400F with our best overall motherboard: The MSI Z390-A PRO

If you’re looking for a cheap Intel gaming CPU, The Core i5-9400F is the best option.

We’re specifically recommending the non-graphics integrated version because even in a budget gaming build, you want a standalone card.

With a clock speed of up to 4.1GHZ and 6 cores/threads, this Intel offering still packs a punch and can be paired with a decent GPU.

i5-9400F vs Ryzen 5 3600

At the time of writing this, the two budget CPU options are around the same price.

Originally the Ryzen 5 3600 was a more “premium” option, and it shows in the benchmarks.

The card tends to perform 10-20% better across the board, from games to general PC tasks.

If the Intel option happens to be significantly lower price at the time you’re looking, then, by all means, go for it.

But if the prices are what we expect, then the 3600 is the best value CPU for gaming available.

But the 9400-F will still get a lot done in a production/gaming/streaming build should you want to stick to Intel.

The Asus Prime Z370-P II is the best cheap gaming Intel motherboard available on the market today.

It may soon be discontinued as manufacturers move towards focussing on the Z390 chipset.

If you can’t get this motherboard, go for the MSI Z390-A PRO.

This ASUS offering is an ATX motherboard. It’s great that it retains the good value at this form factor, offering:

  • 2 x PCI-e slots
  • 4 x DIMM/DDR4 RAM slots
  • Dual NVMe M.2 Storage option

It won’t have as many bells and whistles as our mid-range picks (RGB headers, reduced overclocking facilities, no USB 3.1 type C, etc).

But as far as the utility you need from a budget gaming build?  This Asus motherboard has everything you need.

Cheapest AMD Motherboard CPU Combo:

AMD Ryzen 3 3200G With Asus Prime B450M-A

Let’s be clear:

If you’re serious about building a gaming PC, or one capable of decent production/streaming output, then the budget picks above should be the minimum.

That being said…

What if you’re happy with a PC that’s just for lightweight gaming (e.g. Fortnite on fairly low settings/older games) and general web browsing/Netflix etc?

We’ve included the cheapest CPU motherboard combos we’d recommend if this fits what you’re after.

For its low price point, the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G manages to pack an impressive amount and is the cheapest AMD CPU for gaming we’d recommend.

Still packing 4 cores/threads, max frequency of 4.0GHZ, and an included wraith stealth cooler (enough for a cheap setup).

With your budget in mind, AMD has included integrated graphics into this CPU.

But know for games, the performance will be pretty poor, you’d be playing games on low at best.

Therefore even if your budget is tight, try to stretch to a standalone card.

That being said, don’t be put off if you can’t afford some of the better picks on this list.

You can still play plenty of great modern games with this AM4 CPU when combined with a fair GPU (just not at crazy settings/resolutions!).

The Asus Prime B450M-A is definitely the cheapest AM4 motherboard we’d recommend.

At its Micro ATX form factor, you’re getting:

  • 1 x PCI-e slot
  • 4 x DDR4 compatible outputs
  • Surprisingly, an RGB header should you ever need
  • An NVMe M.2 storage option

As far as overclocking goes, you’ll be limited on this board.

But in a budget build, you’ll not want to spend lots on cooling anyway.

Put simply: this mobo and CPU combo is excellent for someone looking at the minimum for supporting a gaming PC.

Cheapest Intel Motherboard CPU Combo:

Intel Core i3-9100F With MSI H310M PRO-M2 Plus

When considering i3-9100F vs Ryzen 3 3200G, the performance in this category is actually quite comparable.

So if you’re looking for the cheapest Intel CPU motherboard combo, rest assured that this option is as good as AMD’s offering.

With that said, if you don’t have a brand allegiance, we’d recommend you just pick whichever of the two pairs happens to be cheaper at the time you’re looking.

The Intel Core i3-9100F is as cheap as you can get for an Intel gaming CPU.

With similar specs to the AMD offering, you’re looking at 4 cores/threads and clocks up to 4.2GHZ.

A basic cooler is included (all you’d want for a very low budget PC).

Integrated graphics are not included, but as always, you want to fork out for a standalone card if you’re interested in gaming anyway.

One of the cheapest Coffee Lake CPUs available, this offering isn’t really designed for gaming as you can expect from the price.

But if you’re happy with lower settings on less demanding games (or just want a PC for general purposes) this can still manage your needs just fine.

The MSI H310M PRO-M2 Plus, to put it simply, is the cheapest Coffee Lake motherboard that won’t bottleneck a basic gaming build.

Another mATX mobo (as expected for the budget), you have:

  • 1 x PCI-e slot
  • 2 x DDR4 compatible outputs
  • NVMe M.2 support
  • Acceptable onboard sound

Of course, at this very cheap price point, you’re not getting much more than the minimum.

But really in a budget build, you only need 1 PCI-e slot and 2 x RAM slots anyway.

Coming in at an exceptionally low price-point, this Intel CPU motherboard combo is perfect for anyone who really needs to make every $ count.

Best High-End AMD Motherboard CPU combo:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X With Asus Prime X570-Pro

If price is not a concern, the next pair is the best CPU motherboard combination on the list.

Of course, at these prices, this is for a very powerful gaming build or someone after a high-end production/video editing/streaming PC.

For the average gaming PC, you’ll do well with the top picks above.

But if you’re more interested in power than budget, keep reading!

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X is an incredible piece of hardware.

With a monstrous 12 cores, 24 threads, and overclockable up to 4.6GHZ, despite its high price-point, it still somehow manages to feel impressively valuable with all this included.

The processor will be more than capable of running a high-intensity multi-GPU build.

As far as gaming goes, provided you have the high-end VGAs to match, you can consider yourself future-proofed,

This Ryzen 9 CPU will be capable of working alongside top-end graphics cards to act as a 4k gaming PC (with decent settings/fps to boot).

This AMD offering also performs excellently across benchmarks for pretty much all other major computational task tests.

Meaning its a perfect CPU for production, video editing, and the best streaming processors for absolute top quality/multi-tasking.

The processor also comes with a good quality LED cooler, good for the basis of an RGB build.

This cooler won’t compete with standalone heatsinks or CPU water coolers (that we expect most high-end builders to go for) but it’s a nice inclusion nonetheless.

It’s hard not to rave about the 3900X and its superb feature set, it’s one of the best CPUs for overclocking and if you’re looking for a top-quality gaming build, start here.

Ryzen 9 3900X vs 3950X

Some of you may be wondering why we chose the 3900x over its more powerful brother for our top-end pick.

With an additional 8 threads and higher overclocking potential, the 3950X is indisputably better.

But for around 50% extra cost, there are pretty huge diminishing returns.

If you also need your build to be state of the art for production purposes or want to ensure you can max out games like RDR 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 (when it comes out) at a very high resolution/FPS, then definitely go for the 3950X.

But otherwise, even for your high-demand gaming needs, we think the 3900X will match what you need (spend the delta on better GPUs).

The Asus Prime X570-Pro Ryzen 3 is one of the best AM4 motherboards available today.

With the X570 chipset, you’ll have access to not only the best processor power draw around today (to max out that expensive CPU), but also PCI-e 4.0.

The main utility here is for GPUs and NVMe storage performing at faster speeds.

This is great for top-end builds, and while you may not see the full capability of PCI-e 4.0 for another few years, it means you’re investing in a future-proof motherboard.

In terms of other features, oh boy, the list is plentiful and we won’t cover it all in the summary, but for the highlights:

  • ATX form factor with 3 x PCI-e slots
  • 4 x DDR4 slots
  • Dual NVMe M.2 support
  • Fantastic onboard sound (Realtek 8.1 S1220A)
  • Beautiful onboard RGB lighting, 2 addressable headers, and 1 standard RGB header, perfect for an RGB build.
  • Numerous other onboard BIOs features for overclocking & optimization

Yes, the board is expensive.

But for enthusiasts, the quality of life features you get for overclocking amongst all the points mentioned above really make it a gem.

You can go a lot more expensive with motherboards, but we’d say this is the sweet spot even for the most avid of power builders.

If we had to pick just one: this is the best gaming motherboard CPU combo we’d recommend in the entire list.

Best High-End Intel Motherboard CPU combo:

Intel Core i9-9900K With MSI MEG Z390 ACE

Our most expensive Intel CPU motherboard combo is a worthy competitor to AMD’s offering.

The Intel Core i9-9900K is one of the most popular CPUs of the current generation, and for good reasons!

With 8 cores, 16 threads, and up to 5.0GHZ clock speed, you can get amazing speeds out of this processor for a gaming computer.

As far as other tasks go, the CPU always perform excellently, benchmarking very well for the needs of a production or streaming PC

i9-9900K vs Ryzen 9 3900X

A battle of titans.

Both of these are amazing CPUs for gaming.

With that said, in all the benchmarking done for these 2, there is a slight edge to 3900X.

That is across lots of different factors, from gaming to various general PC task tests.

It isn’t completely unanimous, with the i9 recording some slightly better fps peaks in some 1080p tests.

But it’s clear that the Ryzen CPU tends to take the victory if we had to choose.

We also like that the AMD CPU comes with PCI-e express support, which future-proofs your next gaming setup when combined with our recommended motherboard.

If however, when you were browsing, the i9 CPU motherboard combo was >10% cheaper, it would likely be worth the savings as they are still close in performance.

One final thing to bear in mind: the 3900X includes a nice LED RGB cooler and the 9900K doesn’t include even a basic stock cooler.

Though we expect most of you will be going for a standalone option anyway.

Intel i9 9900K vs Intel 10900x
If you keep up with PC news, you’ll know the 10900x is the “new guy” in town.

The CPU is currently very hard to get hold of and quite pricey.

Although the architecture behind it is very impressive (as you’d expect from the next-gen comet lake CPUs), in real-world performance terms, it’s a tad underwhelming.

Benchmarks vs existing CPUs show only marginal improvements.

Even for enthusiast builds, we would stick with the 9900 or comparable AMD offerings for the time being.

The MSI MEG Z390 ACE is one of the best Z390 motherboards around if your wallet is thick.

Let’s start with the design.

We don’t often focus on style for motherboards…

But tied with a nice visible PC case, the Z390 AC will look fantastic with its slick RGB lighting and steel fixtures (on PCI-e slots, etc).

It’s an ATX motherboard which like our top AM4 motherboard, has too many features to list.

Including:

  • 3 x PCI-e slots
  • 4 x DDR4 slots
  • 3 x M.2 support (with 1 x integrated M.2 heatsink)
  • Very good integrated sound (Realtek 8.1 S1220A)
  • Excellent rear I/O panel including a USB type C port.
  • Also (rather uncommonly) includes potential inputs for 2 x USB type C ports for the front I/ O panel
  • Beautiful onboard RGB lighting and addressable headers for an RGB build.
  • Locks of overclocking utility within the BIOs/onboard heatsinks

If you’re looking for an Intel gaming motherboard CPU combo in the era of Coffee Lake/Z390 and you have the money, this is the pair you want.

Best Micro ATX AMD Motherboard CPU Combo:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X With ASUS Prime B450M-A

For those of you looking for a Micro ATX AMD Gaming PC we’ve combined our best gaming CPU pick from the top of this list with a great, affordable mATX motherboard.

We’ve already been over the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X at the top of our list (where it belongs).

It has returned because it’s easily the best Ryzen CPU for gaming when considering a “mid-range” user.

The 3700X is a great choice for an mATX CPU Motherboard combo too because you’re still going to be looking for good processor power in a mini-tower gaming PC.

With its 8 cores / 16 threads, it will be very effective for single/dual GPU setup (2 is the most you’ll do with a Micro ATX mobo).

What else is there to say that we haven’t already?

This is the best value gaming CPU on the market today. If it fits into your budget, pick it up.

The Asus Prime B450M-A has an impressively dense feature-set for its mATX form factor and low price.

You’ll be getting:

  • 1 x PCI-e slots
  • 4 x DDR4 RAM slots
  • NVMe support

And solid onboard features/BIOs to enable customization/good performance.

We’ve recommended a board with 1 x PCI-e slots as imagine many of you looking at building a Micro ATX gamer computer will be focussing on single-GPU builds.

If you want a crossfire gaming PC (or the potential for one later), you can fork out more on the Gigabyte B450M DS3H (still compatible with the Ryzen 3700X).

You’ll note that there are some cheaper 2 x PCI-e AMD mobos floating around.

But some other features you lose out on (limited SATA availability/other power draw concerns around the board) are not worth it unless you’re sticking to a very cheap build.

Overall, this motherboard, combined with the most popular AMD gaming CPU on the market will make your setup a powerhouse when combined with a good GFX card.

Best Micro ATX Intel Motherboard CPU Combo:

Intel Core i7-9700K With ASRock Z390M PRO4

For the Micro ATX Intel CPU motherboard combo, we’ve also returned to our top CPU pick tied with an excellent value mobo.

The Intel Core i7-9700K is just as good a CPU for an mATX gaming PC as it is for our top (ATX) based combo.

The only extra thing to bear in mind for a smaller build is with the lack of stock cooler, you’ll be putting effort into buying a CPU cooler that’s compatible with a mini-tower case.

There’s usually enough room in this form factor for a majority of them though (just ensure you check dimensions).

The 9700K is more than capable of running greatly alongside a powerful GPU (or two), which is what you’d be looking at in an mATX PC.

What more is there to say?

This is the best Intel CPU for gaming today with the average budget in mind, and great for an mATX computer.

The ASRock Z390M PRO4 is such an impressive value-offering, for most mATX CPU motherboard combos, this is more than good enough.

You may not have heard of ASRock to the same extent as say, ASUS or MSI.

But rest assured they are an excellent motherboard manufacturer, especially in the affordable price ranges.

With this board, you’re getting:

  • 2 x PCI-e slots
  • 4 x DIMM outputs
  • Decent onboard sound

It’s a motherboard for a dual-GPU build should you need it in the future (unlike the AMD mATX ASRock board on Amazon, it doesn’t sacrifice as much on SATA/power draw to have that extra slot).

If you have the budget for a mobo with some more bells and whistles (better M.2/RGB capacity, slightly improved audio & integrated wi-fi) then you could also go with the excellent MSI MPG Z390M.

But the ASRock will give you everything you need for a “no-frills” base and is a perfect pair with the Ryzen for an mATX CPU motherboard combo.

Best Mini ITX AMD Motherboard CPU Combo:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 With B450I GAMING PLUS AC

For the smallest form factor, we’ve chosen a pair of slightly more affordable options given you don’t need a CPU that powers a huge powerhouse in an mITX gaming PC.

We’ll discuss potential upgrades should you have the budget though.

The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is another offering we’ve already raved about in our budget pick.

Easily the best Ryzen 5 CPU for gaming, the cores/threads you’re getting for the price is fantastic.

Why are we going for a “budget CPU” for the top Mini-ITX combination?

Well, in mITX builds and PC case sizes for the form factor, you’re going to be sticking to single GPU builds.

With this in mind, the 3600 is a good enough CPU to not bottleneck one graphics card for your gaming.

Don’t get us wrong, you’re still going to get some decent extra juice out of our favorite pick, the Ryzen 7 3700X, if you have the budget.

Especially if you want a mini-ITX streaming PC or a CPU for video editing/production.

But overall, we think this Ryzen 5 processor will cover what most of you will need.

So don’t fret if it’s the furthest your budget can stretch for your mITX gaming computer.

The MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC is pricey, but also the best Mini ITX AM4 motherboard on the market.

Decent mITX AMD motherboards seem to be more expensive than the Intel category.

A tad unusual in this generation. We expect this is simply because of supply/demand.

That being said, if you’re looking at a mITX build, this is still a great option, with:

  • 1 x steel-plated PCI-e slot (standard for the form factor)
  • 2 x DDR4 RAM slots (also standard for mITX)
  • Decent onboard sound
  • Included wi-fi (recommended for mITX so you’re not relying on limited USB/PCI slots)
  • A well-featured I/O panel, considering the size

Combined with either the Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 CPUs above, you have a fantastic basis here for a gaming PC.

Remember with a ITX computer/ single GPU, you’re not going to get quite the same power as you would out of something larger.

But know that if that single GPU is a powerful one, you can still create a great portable gaming PC/something suitable for LAN parties or a VR demo build.

This small CPU motherboard combo will also still perform great with other general computational tasks too if you have video editing/streaming in mind.

Best Mini ITX Intel Motherboard CPU Combo:

Intel Core i5-9600K With ASRock Z390M-ITX/ac

When it came to confirming the best CPU motherboard combos for mITX, we actually found that Intel came out looking better than AMD.

Not something we saw in many of the other categories, so take this pair seriously!

Last but certainly not least on our list is the fantastic Intel Core i5-9600K CPU.

The smaller brother of the i7-9700K, the CPU still manages a decent 6 cores/threads and up to 4.6GHZ clock speed.

The base clock speed is also 3.7GHZ, which is nice for those worried about overclocking in such a tight form factor where cooling is often minimal.

Combined with the below Mini-ITX Z390 motherboard, you have a great combo here to tie with a single GPU for a powerful gaming build.

i5-9600K vs i7-9700K

Some users may wonder if it’s worth forking out more for the i7 CPU, which we consider the best Coffee Lake CPU for gaming with price in mind.

Well, while it’s great for ATX/mATX builds, it’s probably a tad overkill for ITX PCs.

If you’re looking to build the best mITX gaming computer you can, by all means go for the 9700K.

It will also open up more capability in the way of multi-tasking/other task speeds – whether that’s for a streaming setup, video editing, or a production rig.

But we expect most people looking at mITX are more interested in achieving a decent, but not “ultra-powerful” portable PC.

For you guys, be comfortable knowing the 9600K is enough alongside a great GPU.

i5-9600K vs Ryzen 5 3600 combo

When putting our smallest CPU motherboard combos head-to-head, we think in this case, Intel comes out on top.

When it comes to the CPU specifically, the 9600K performs slightly better in gaming.

The Ryzen 5 3600, with its increased threads, will be marginally better at multi-tasking.

But really, they’re in the same ballpark.

The Ryzen 5 3600 is usually more valuable as it’s typically around 10-15% cheaper.

The reason we choose Intel here?

Because the mITX Intel motherboard options are better than AMD’s.

The value you’re getting from the cheaper motherboard outweighs what you get from the cheaper processor.

By all means, if you check the prices of our top picks on Amazon via the links and see the AMD combo at a lower price, go for it.

But chances are, the Intel offering is cheaper, and we think, your best choice for this form factor.

The ASRock Z390M-ITX/ac is what makes this pairing so valuable and in our view, the best Mini ITX CPU motherboard pairing for either Intel or AMD.

At a very impressive price-point, you’re getting.

  • 1 x PCI-e slot (the mITX standard)
  • 2 x DIMM slots (also the mITX standard and still gives you up to 32GB RAM)
  • Good quality onboard audio
  • Integrated Wi-FI
  • NVMe support

Again remembering that on a miTX motherboard you’re obviously limited compared to larger form factors, this is a fantastic value offering.

Having NVMe support is really nice for a tiny build where storage space matters.

Integrated Wi-Fi at the price point is very useful when you have limited USB/PCI slots too.

Simply put, if you add a decent graphics card, this Intel CPU motherboard combo will be fantastic for an mITX gaming computer.

Final Word

We appreciate how long this feature is and how much information you have just digested!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, know that we only provided so many options to ensure every size, budget & requirement.

If you want the short answer for what suits most PCs for gaming, streaming, production, and general usage: go with our top AMD choice.

We put this combination at the top for the reason and really stands out as being perfect for most users.

But rest assured, whatever category you’re most focussed on, know that these options are all fantastic for their respective price-points and great basis’ for your next exciting build!
